literary. First, we;ll analysis them individually & then we;ll try to a comparison of
both texts.

Literary Analysis of “Home Burial”

Summary: Home Burial is one of early poems by Robert Frost & indeed a
masterpiece. This poem, that is dramatic in nature, revolves around the themes of
personal loss of a family. The appeal of the poem lies in the depiction of trauma &
grief faced by the mother * how it affects her relationship with her husband.

Main themes: The poem represents the trauma, emotional & mental breakdown of
a mother who has lost his child to death. Collapse of marriage is another major
theme of the poem because the husband seems indifferent to what’s happening to
his wife after their son’s dies. He tries to solace her * asks her the reason behind
her sadness but there is wide emotional & communication gap between the couple.
It looks like he has accepted the reality of death & seems composed. This disturbs
her as she believes that he is affected by their loss. The conversation gets intense
and she leaves the home. He promises to bring her home by whatever means
necessary but we already know that it’s over.

Form : This poem is written in blank-verse. The poem hasn’t used any strict
rhythmic schemes.

Repetition: There is a repetition of the line, “What is it you see” and “like that,
like that”. It creates a musical quality in the poem.

Poetic Devices:

Imagery: The poet has used the imagery to make the readers perceive things.
Metaphor: This poem has employed few implied metaphors in it.For example,
“‘Not you! Oh, where’s my hat? Oh, I don’t need it! I must get out of here. I must
get air”. Here the home is compared to a trap,

Analysis of a new reports

The news report “Nishtar flooded with plaints about delay in Covid-19 test
reports” written by Asif Chaudhary was published in the The Dawn on May 03,
2020. I accessed it through online edition of Dawn available at the website
dawn.com

The news report tells us about the problem patients are facing in getting their
COVID-19 reports in Nishtar Medical Hospital, Multan. The author brings in his
own comments as well as concrete figures to address the topic.

I believe this is a good article. The author has included a lot of concrete information,
along with the view points of all concerned people.

Comparison of both texts:

Both texts belong to different genres. There is not much common among them.
There are more differences, than similarities. Here is a brief comparison of both the
text

Form:

Poem is written in blank verse while news report is written in formal text.

Tone:

Both texts have different tones. It’s quite obvious because both belong to two
different genres. Poem “Home Burial” is written in a dramatic tone that

emphasizes the theme of the poem. On the other hand, news report has formal tone
& quite rightly serves journalistic purposes.

Literary Devices:

There are multiple literary devices used in the poem. For example, the poet Robert
Frost has used imagery in the poem. There is also use of implied metaphor in the
poem. For example, “‘Not you! Oh, where’s my hat? Oh, I don’t need it! I must get
out of here. I must get air”. Here the home is compared to a trap.

On the other hand, there is very little use of imagery and metaphor in the the news
report. There is one instance of metaphor in the whole news report.

Theme:

The poem resolves around the dramatic theme of a personal loss of a family. The
husband and wife find themselves at crossroads after their son dies. Wife is
suffering from trauma & mental breakdown while husband seems to be contented
with the fate. Husband tries to ask the wife about the reason behind her sadness.
She refuses to answer his questions & leaves the house. It seems like the emotional
and communication gap has costed them their marital life.

On the other hand, news report describes the problems patients are facing in
Nishtar Hospital Multan, in backdrop of recent covid-19 pandemic. The reporter
narrates the events happening & quotes different concerned people. While he
highlights the poor condition of the hospital, he also mentions the reasons behind
& how can they be fixed.s
