ASSIGNMENT
Name: MAMALUMPONG JORDAN A. BSN-3

SOLVING. Solve the following problem and show the solution. (40pts)
1. If an infusion is calibrated for 15gtt/ml, running at a rate of 45gtt/min, how
long will be required to infuse 1L of fluid? (5pts)
total volume ordered ∈ml
Formula: infusion time= ml /hr rate
1000 ml 15 gtt 1 min 1hr 15,200
Ans: infusion time= x x x = =5.5∨330 mins /5 hrs∧30 mins .
1L 1 ml 45 gtt 60 min 2,700

2. A physician’s order reads “D5LR 2 liters in 24 hours.” What is the correct

infusion rate if the infusion set delivers 60gtt/ml? (5pts)
total volume x gtt / ml
Formula: gtt/min= runninghrs(60 mins /hr )

2000 ml 60 gtt 120,000

Answer: gtt/min= 24 hrs x 60 min /hr = 1,440 =83.3∨83 gtt / min

3. The doctor’s order reads “Administer Cefuroxime 375mg IVTT every 8

hours.” The stock is 750mg/vial. You dilute the vial at 6cc. How many cc
should you give to the patient? (5pts)
desired dosage(mg)
Formula: mL= available stock (mg) x diluents(mL)

375 mg
Answer: mL= 750 mg x 6 cc=0.5 x 6 cc=3 cc every 8 hrs
4. Additional order reads “Give Paracetamol 75mg IVTT PRN every 4hrs for
T> 38°C. The stock is 300mg/2ml. What is the correct dose? (5pts)
desired dosage(mg)
Formula: mL= available stock (mg) x diluents(mL)

75 mg
Answer: mL= 300 mg x 2 mL=0.25 x 2 mL=0.50 mLevery 4 hrs

5. On September 28, 2020, one adult patient in emergency room was infused
with an IVF of PNSS 1 litter at a rate of 100 gtts/min at 7:30am. At around
9:00 am the patient was transferred to his room and the consultant doctor
decreased the IVF flow rate at 50 gtts/min. (20pts)
A. How much fluids were infused at 10:30am?
7:30-9:00 am duration
1000 mL x 20 gtt /mL
mL / hr = =200 mL /hr
100 gtt /min
1 hr ∧30 min
7:30-9:00 am duration= 200 mL+100 mL =300 mL fluid infused at around 7 : 30 am

1000 mL – 300 = 700 ml remaining fluid volume
