Lesson 1

-Speech and oral

communication-
Engaging Activity 1: Comprehension Questions
1. Tongue, Lips, Glottis, Velum, Vocal Folds
2. Speech is produced by bringing air from the lungs to the larynx (respiration), where
the vocal folds may be held open to allow the air to pass through or may vibrate to
make a sound (phonation). The airflow from the lungs is then shaped by the
articulators in the mouth and nose (articulation).
3. The tongue is the most important articulator of speech. It has a dominant role of
speech in human interactions, an overwhelming proportion of tongue movement focuses
on its role in speech, specifically vowel and consonant production.
4. Respiration, Phonation, Resonance, Articulation
