Hierarchy 3

Hierarchy, Leadership, and an Organization

Background

Suppose you working in an organization where hierarchy rules are not much followed.

You start getting orders from several bosses/managers. You try your level best to complete all

the tasks assigned to you by multiple bosses, but at the end of the day you fail to complete those

tasks in the given period. As a result of which, instead of getting appreciation you get scolded by

some boss. This results into you getting demotivated of the job and eventually it adversely

affects the performance of an organization.

Introduction

As stated by Zafeiris and Vicsek (2015), hierarchical firm is abundant in artificial and

natural social structures, amongst the humans and even the animal species. Despite these

abundant literature and quantitative results are quite rare and not followed mostly (Zafeiris and

Vicsek, 2015). Because of this, the senior managers mostly ignore the middle management level

and directly contact the staff, because of which the staff get the orders from several managers.

For staff sometimes it proves to be beneficial, but in several cases, it affects the performance of

an employee. Thus, this report will examine the role top-down hierarchy can play for betterment

of an organization.

Report Aim and Objectives

This report aims to examine the impact hierarchy can have on performance of an

organization. To achieve this aim, following objectives needs to be achieved.

Hierarchy 4

 To examine the negative impact multiple bosses can have over an employee

 To analyze the role of hierarchy in organization performance

 To discuss the static and dynamic leadership practiced in an organization

Rationale of the Study

Keeping an employee motivated is one of the most essential tasks of an organization, and

the firms failing in doing so are not able to perform well and attain a competitive position in the

market. Therefore, it is fundamental to understand the different aspects due to which an

employee might be affected, one of such factors is employee getting order from multiple orders

and firms not following a proper hierarchy. Thus, this study tends to study over this aspect.

Structure of Report

This report will be following the structure of a qualitative study, in which studies closely

linked with the chosen topic will be analyzed. After giving a brief introduction to the topic,

hierarchy role in organization performance is going to be discussed. Afterwards, it will

determine the disadvantages multiple bosses can have over an employee. At last, the impact of

static and dynamic leadership can have over the performance of an organization is going to be

discussed.
