Product Overview 
Advanced  Communication  Skills  for  Engineering  and  Science  Students  (ACSESS)  is  a  Virtual 
Tutor  assisted  course  designed  by  practicing  engineers,  scientists,  and  academicians  to  train 
students  in  all  aspects  of  scientific  and technical communication skills. The objective is to train 
students  to  communicate  as  professionals  and 
enhance their employability. This 60-80 hours course 
is  interactive  and  self-learning  with  minimal 
guidance from faculty members and mentors.

6. It  is  a  Chrome-based  Webapp  and  therefore  runs  on  PC/laptop,  smartphones,  tablet 
PCs, and therefore, ideally suited for language labs as well as practising at home. 

Instructions 
A  university,  science  and  engineering  college,  polytechnic  can  contact  us  to get a group license 
for  the  students.  The  college  admin  or  Professor may register at ​https://skill2030.com log in by 
filling  in  credentials,  and  request a quote. A professor can be the admin and send us a list of the 
students’  email  names  and  email  addresses.  We  will  assign  user  accounts  to  them.  The 
professor  may  assign  licences  to  a  few  mentors  too.  The  students can log in using the email id 
and  any  password  and  start  using  ACSESS.  Your  students  will  be  in  a  group  that  you  can 
monitor  as  a  group and down to an individual’s activities and performance and compare against 
the global averages. 

Individual licenses are available for direct purchase using various online payment methods. 

Using the software

2. Launch  the  Chrome  browser  on  your  device.  Go  to  site  https://skill2030.com  Log  into 
ACSESS using your email ID and Password 
3. Go  to  settings.  Select  your  tutor,  select  a  voice  for  the  tutor  (US  Male,  British  Female, 
etc.)  Also,  select  a  voice for the background text reading and Speech rate-- slow, normal, 
fast.  The  voice  installation  instruction  is  given on the settings page. Let the Virtual Tutor 
read  the  test  paragraph  and  adjust  the  speech  to  synchronize  with  the  Audio.  You  may 
manually adjust that too.  
4. If necessary, test your microphone and speakers and adjust their volumes. 
5. Go  to  Pathway  menu  and  select  a  pathway.  Pathways  have  courses,  courses  have 
lessons,  and  lessons  have  activities  usually  topic-wise  grouped.  For  example,  you  may 
select  the  pathway  Communication  Skills  for  Engineers,  then  select  a  course  from  the 
course  menu,  for  example,  Technical  Communication  Skills  -  An  Introduction,  select the 
first lesson.

6. Activities are self-evident. However here is a short description. 
Keywords  practice.  -  Listen  to  the  keywords  and  practice  pronouncing  them  one  by 
one.  If  you  get  a  green  checkmark,  then  your  pronunciation  is  good.  The  orange 
checkmark  means  OK,  but  you may want to repeat again. Red means your pronunciation 
is  off;  listen  carefully  and  repeat  clearly  and  exactly  as  you  have  heard.  Do  not  worry  if 
you get red twice, you may skip it and move on to the next item. 

Listen  and  Repeat  (L&R)  -  Listen  to  the  Virtual  Tutor  carefully  and  repeat  exactly  the 
same way into the microphone.  

See,  Listen,  and  Repeat  Sentence - See the given sentence(s), listen to the audio how the 

sentence  is  supposed  to  be  said in proper English and then repeat exactly the same way 
into  the  microphone  --  Slowly,  clearly  and  loudly.  Then  listen  to your recording, re-record 
if necessary. 

Read  Paragraph:  Read  the  given  paragraph  once  silently  to  comprehend  the  meaning 
and  then  aloud  into  the  microphone.  To  learn  how  to  read  that  paragraph,  you may first 
click the speaker button to listen to it. 

Multiple  choice  questions(MCQ):  Answer  questions  based  on  what  you  have  learned, 
read or listened to. 

Extempore  Speech:  Think  and  Speak  aloud  on  a  given  topic  for  about  a  minute  into  the 
microphone, and submit for a review. 

Writing:  Write  a  couple  of  paragraphs  on  a  given  topic,  follow  the  hints  given  with  the 
task.  You  will get part of the score based on your grammar, spelling etc. You may submit 
it for a review by the expert mentors, or peers. 

Homework:  Learning  from  external  resources,  arranging  group  discussions,  technical 

presentation, mock-job interviews etc. 

Watch  your  progress.  Work  harder  on  the  sub-skills for which you score low and need to 

improve.

7. Do  the  suggested  activities  such  as  watch  an  important  video,  Organize  Group 
Discussion,  upload  your  video  recording  to  YouTube  as  private  and  give  the  link  in  the 
provided field and so on. 
8. When  finished,  please  log  out  from  your  account  just  in  case  another  student  wants  to 
use the same device. You may want to close the browser too.
