“If I had to teach architecture....I would strive to inculcate in my pupils a keen sense of

control--unbiased judgment and of the “how” and the “why.”

I would encourage them to cultivate this sense till their dying day. But I would want
them to base it on an objective series of facts.
Facts are fluid and changeable especially nowadays, so I would teach them to distrust
formulas and impress on them that everything is relative.”

Each student is required to devote his/her 9th and 10th

semester to one project, the thesis, which is an individual

project selected by the students subject to the approval of

supervisor, which must be made at the beginning of the

semester.

Project of each student has to be of a fairly large size and

should require an in-depth study of design issues, problems

and appropriate case studies which will lead to preparation of

architect’s brief, formulation of requirements.

The students will be required to develop a conceptual study

and preliminary design proposal in a specific and given

context in their own area of specialization such as

contemporary architecture, interior design, landscape

architecture, urban design and heritage conservation issues

etc. The students are expected to produce a non-plagiarized

comprehensive design report.

The Thesis Design-I to be completed during the 9th Semester follow the following sequence:

1. Define the Topic/ Project and justify that it is not only feasible but also

believable and distinctive. Thesis should revolve around a fairly large

project, with an estimated building design area up to 100,000 square feet.

2. Background, Problem statement, Thesis Objectives and Statement, Scope

and limitations, Purpose/Relevance/Significance of the Study and

Assumptions.

3. Understanding the required Macro & Micro data management

(Present condition, Primary data, Tables/Graphs etc.).

The Thesis Design-I to be completed during the 9th Semester follow the following sequence:

• Methodology of research and data collection

(a) Literature studies to have clarity of understanding of the project

(b) International case studies as per requirement of the topic

(c) Local, regional or National Case Studies

(d) Analysis of case studies

• Formulation of schedule of Requirements with reference to areas of all spaces

and other relevant issues

• Site Selection criteria, Consideration of the appropriate Site, its background, area

and appropriate location.

The Thesis Design-I to be completed during the 9th Semester follow the following sequence:

• Consideration of available sites and final selection of suitable site. Site selection

and justification.

• Site and its SWOT Analysis along with assessment of cutting, filling, historic

considerations if any, and related factors / Issues relevant to the site.

• Development of design philosophy, concepts, parameters, goals and objectives

• Initial Master Planning, Entrance/s, Zoning, Blocking, Orientation etc.

• Appropriate graphical presentation as defined by the supervisor/s

• Written Report on the work done.
