Escaping the scorching heat is a major concern to those living in the hot and humid
climatic regions.What a treat would it be if this  issue can be solved naturally and
 economically!How great would one feel to stay in their homes with no heat stress or
exertion!Well to all the green lovers,the ller slabs is another addition to the green
material list to  help reducing the heat gain within homes.

In Filler slab  technology a part of concrete in bottom of the  slab is replaced by ller
material.The basic concept is that the upper part of the slab is subjected to the
compressive force and concrete being very good with compression  is used
above while the bottom part of the slab is subjected to the tensile force hence the
steel reinforcement is placed in the tension zone. The concrete used in the tension

zone only blinds  the steel reinforcement and lacks structural usage. Owing to this
‘un-productive’ nature and its hazardous impact to the environment,it is replaced
by a ller material thus making this zone light in weight.As a result,there is a
decrease in the number of steel reinforcement too therein cutting down the cost of
concrete and the reinforcement bars to a total of nearly 30% of the slab.Replacing
concrete at the bottom does not mean reduction in the structural stability of the
slab.

Coconut shell

Owing to the construction of the slab,once done with the shuttering the
reinforcement are laid in a grid form with the sizes depending on its structural
design.With considerations in choosing the ller material ,it has to be inert in
nature,less weight and has to t the structurally reinforced grid.The ller should be
soaked in water well before being placed as it should not absorb water form the
concrete.Then the slab is cast with cement concrete similar to traditional concrete
slabs.
