Labor and Delivery

“ A mother’s joy begins once new life is stirring within when a small heartbeat is detected for
the very first time, and an implike kick reminds her that she is never alone.” (Anonymous). It is not just
only the physical demonstration of conceiving an offspring that holds the most impressive memories for a
mother, it’s however the people around her made her feel and also the manner she was cared for before,
during, and after birth. Genuinely, I can see the beauty in the process of birth where you can witness and
observe the growth and formation of the child in the mother’s womb. Labor and delivery may be the most
painful experience of the mother yet it’s unbelievably amazing and wonderful.
As a student nurse, it’s really important to know with regards to the birthing process since in
the near future, I can apply these in this kind of field. It’s crucial since the life of the mother and the baby
is at stake during the time of birth so wide scope of knowledge and aptitude plays a fundamental function
during labor and delivery or the birthing process. Also, I will encounter different kinds of people with
different values so it’s important to be culturally competent.
I can say that to witness the child coming out from the mother’s womb is perhaps the best
experience in this kind of calling or profession. During the mother’s pregnancy, it’s a different feeling to
know the position of the baby whether it’s in a cephalic or breech position. Also, it's an alternate sort of
satisfaction that you perceive how the life of the infant starts up to the time he/she begins to cry. It is truly
relieving and overwhelming.
Honestly, I can’t yet fully appreciate the beauty of the childbirth process since I am not yet in
the actual field because of this pandemic. I missed these kinds of experiences such as performing
Leopold’s maneuver in a pregnant mother to determine the position of the baby, assisting during
childbirth, and cord-cutting. However, I know that this shall pass. I can and will still experience these
when all is well. I really can’t wait to witness the actual childbirth where I can hold the newborn baby.
“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, and before you were born, I consecrated you; I
appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5)
