1.0 INTRODUCTION

Under the scope of work for Projek Pembaikan Cerun Dan Kerja – Kerja Berkaitan di
Sekolah Kebangsaan Kauluan Ranau,Sabah Concreting work for Shear Wall and its
associated works need to be carried out.

2.0 OBJECTIVE

Shear wall is a vertical structural element used to resist the horizontal forces such as
wind force, seismic force. These forces acts parallel to the plane of the wall. Shear
walls are generally used in high rise buildings where effect of wind forces and
seismic forces is more.

3.0 WORKS METHODOLOGY

3.1 Preparation Stage

a) Setting Out shall be carried out based on reference points on site by survey or
shown in the drawings.

b) Timber pegs or others will be used to set out RC Slab and RC Wall positions as
per drawing.

c) A blinding layer (lean concrete Grade 15) of 50mm thickness is normally

provided in the design to provide a clean working platform.

3.2 Construction Procedure

Reinforcement Fabrication & Installation

a) All reinforcement T12 and BRC A10 for the works shall be approved by
Engineer. Material approval from SESB to be obtained prior to delivery to the
project site.

b) The reinforcement shall be cut, bent and fixed according to the construction
drawing by an experienced supervisor or bar-bender.

c) 75mm dia. PVC weepholes to be installed (for RC Wall) as per shown in

construction drawing.

d) Once fabrication and fixing work of reinforcement bar completed, final joint
inspection between SESB Representative and Contractor to be arranged
prior to commencement of concreting work.

Formwork Installation

a) In case of openings to improve the efficiency of shear wall, connect the piers of

shear walls by spandrels.  Pier is nothing but the portion of shear wall between

two openings and spandrel is the portion of shear wall above the opening. The

resulting wall appeared by interconnecting spandrels of piers of shear walls is

known as coupled shear wall. Provision of openings in balanced pattern can also

make the shear wall efficient.

b) In flanged shear walls, the walls will meet at right angles to each other. This type

of shear walls are less efficient since they are effected by seismic forces in both

principal directions of the building.

Concreting Work

a) Trial Mix for Concrete Grade 25 and Grade 30 shall be carried out witnessed
by SESB representative and Contractor prior to commencement of
concreting work.

b) The concrete casting sequence is such that cold joints are to be avoided.

c) Portable internal porker vibrators shall be used to compact the concrete.

d) Slump test to check the workability of the concrete shall be carried out on site.
Refer Design Mix of Concrete Grade15, Grade 25 and Grade 30 attached.

e) Six (6) nos. of cube sample (150mm x 150mm x 150mm) shall be collected for
the batch of Concrete G25 or G30 on each day. These cube samples shall be
tested for 7 days (3 nos) and 28 day (3 nos) at an Independent Laboratory.

f) After 3 days (or more) completion of concreting work, Contractor to arrange

Post-Concreting work in order to proceed the next activity related to the
completed structure.
