1.0 INTRODUCTION

The Quality Work Procedure (QWP) describes the construction procedures, the materials and equipment
required for the construction to be followed in conducting a maintained tension load test.

Note: Details of the procedures contained herein may be reviewed periodically and modified based on the
actual site requirements.

2.0 SCOPE

This procedure shall apply to all P.T. BAUER Pratama Indonesia. The Static Axial Tensile Load Test is
performed atop a pre-determined single in-situ foundation element in order to demonstrate its performance
relative to the project specification(s).

3.0 REFERENCES DOCUMENTS

 ASTM D3689-07 for Standard Test Method for Deep Foundation under Static Axial Tensile Load
 Project Specifications (or Bauer's in-house standards for Quality and approved constructions)
 Contract Terms & Conditions agreed with Client

4.0 RESPONSIBLITIES

The Operation and Project Management Team both shall be overall responsible for effective co-ordination
and implementation of this Quality Work Procedure.

5.0 PROCEDURE

5.1 General
Tension load test of 300% of design load will be executed to the used pile of each diameter of piles by using
the maintained load cyclic loading procedure as mentioned in the ASTM D 3689. The detail of tension load

Static tension load test is a method of pile testing which is meant to be done with reaction method.
The purpose of load test is basically to prove its performance level; as a means of verification the
displacement under uplift force (tension load), pile could support the uplift load they were designed
with a safety factor.

The test will be performed by reaction pile system, where the applied load on test pile will be
produced by hydraulic jack connected with reaction beam connected with tension rebar and main
beam is placed at the top of two piles as a support footing. Cyclic load will be applied using
hydraulic jack controlled by pressure gauge and vibrating wire load cell (VWLC). In order to make
sure the load applied with minor eccentricity, on top of hydraulic jack will be provided with
spherical bearing.

A leveling instrument was placed on a fixed platform at few meters away from the test pile where
the two scales were fixed to the pile. When the test load was applied, the top settlement of pile was
measured from the changes in scale reading relative to the fixed platform by survey equipment.

Four (4) dial gauges are to be installed to measure the total settlement at pile top elevation under
specified test loads, as well as two (2) additional dial gauges to measure the lateral movements for
tension test. Accuracy of each dial gauges are 0.01 millimeters.

5.2 Test Procedure

Unless failure occurs first, load the pile to a maximum maintained load of 200% of the anticipated design
load for tests, applying the load in increments of 25% of the design load. Maintain each load increment until
the rate of axial movement does not exceed 0.25 mm per hour, with a minimum time adequate to verify this
movement rate based on the accuracy of the movement indicator readings, and with a maximum of 2 hours.
After applying the maximum load and reaching an overall test duration of at least 12 hours, begin unloading
when the axial movement measured over a period of 1 hour does not exceed 0.25 mm, otherwise allow the
maximum load to remain on the pile for 24 hours. After completing the final load increment, remove the
load in decrements of 25% of the maximum test load with 1 hour between decrements.

2.2. For D600 Installed rebar 18 D19 (deformed) (Drawing Reff: J910-vk02-P0ZEN-165629)
Diameter of rebar ............................. D = 19 mm
Cross-sectional area,......................... As = ¼  x D2

Yield strength of steel rebar, ............ fy = 400 MPa
Tensile capacity per rebar, ..............   = 0.85 x As x fy (yield stress limit)

Total tension capacity,...................... T = x 19

Therefor rebar at bored pile NOT sufficient!
Min. rebar requirement, ................... n  = P.max / 

3. Welding Reqirement

3.1. For D800

Tensile force each rebar = 420 / 25 = 16.8 ton = 164.8 kN
(Assume using sufficient rebar 25D25 for D800 pile)

Welding length requirement =

= 13.1 cm ≈ 15 cm

Therefore, the welding length requirement is 15 cm with minimum 1 cm thickness on each

rebar with E7016 (LB52-U) electrode or similar.

GEOTECHNICAL INSTRUMENTATION:
 INCLINOMETER  PIEZOMETER  WATER STAND PIPE  OBSERVATION WELL  SETTLEMENT GAUGES 

FOUNDATION TESTING:
 STATIC LOAD TEST (INSTRUMENTED WITH VWSG) 

ENVIRONMENT MONITORING:
 VIBRATION MONITORING  NOISE MONITORING  DUST MONITORING  TILTMETER  CRACKMETER 

3.2. For D600

Tensile force each rebar = 300 / 31 = 9.7 ton = 95 kN
(Assume using sufficient rebar 31D19 for D600 pile)

Welding length requirement =

= 8.1 cm ≈ 10 cm

Therefore, the welding length requirement is 10 cm with minimum 1 cm thickness on each

rebar with E7016 (LB52-U) electrode or similar.

4. Recommendation
For pile D800, rebar on pile doesn’t sufficient in order to perform 140 ton x 300% uplift
test. Maximum rebar tension capacity (14D25) is 296 ton. For pile D600, rebar on pile doesn’t
sufficient in order to perform 100 ton x 300% uplift test. Maximum rebar tension capacity
(18D19) is 176 ton. For both piles need to add extra rebar to accommodate up lift test load. Table
below is the rebar tension capacity in yield limit (Fy 400 MPa) with various diameter for
reference.

Diamater Tension Capacity

D19 9.8 ton
D22 13.2 ton
D25 17.0 ton
D29 22.4 ton
D32 27.3 ton
