Power Distribution

It is strongly recommended, from a reliability point of view, to use redundancy in UPS as well as in
DC power supply – it is a relative cheap investment for gaining high reliability/minimizing upon plant
downtime as much as possible.

Power Distribution

We should have a few AC power

outlets for powering up a programmer,
a HART handheld communicator etc.

Each panel should have a lighting

fixture (approx 750-1000LUX) that turns
on/off automatically when opening or
closing corresponding panel door.

IO-Card Power Supply

All the DC feeders for the input IO cards needs to be grouped together, same is applicable for the output IO cards.
An emergency-stop relay needs to be included that, when not energized, should turn-down all the DC feeders for the output IO cards.
Each IO card should be fed and fused separately - fused terminal-blocks should come along with LED fuse-blown indicators, e.g.
Phoenix’s HESI-LED terminal-blocks, to ease upon maintenance/trouble-shooting.

Grounding

Instrumentation Earth Bar (IE) and Protection Earth Bar (PE) needs to be totally isolated from each other and installed at the bottom of
corresponding control system panel (for attaching our incoming field-cables to corresponding bar directly) –corresponding bars should be
made from galvanized cupper, at least 15-20mm wide and 2-3mm thick.
The common ‘0Vdc’ should be tied-up to the IE bar to have a solid and stable DC common at all time/circumstances.

Digital Output (DO) Channels

Interposing relays should be used for every digital output signal to prevent damaging corresponding digital output channels due
to ‘current kick-backs’ generated by inductive loads such as solenoid-valves, relays etc – this approach would also give us
more flexibility for supply power towards corresponding loads as we will use an external power source rather than from
corresponding digital output channels (i.e. we will take it easy upon corresponding digital output channels and do not ran into
power supply limiting problems that would force us to do unusual things).
The interposing relays should be Phoenix or Omron made and should come along with a LED indication to tell which ones are
energized or not.

Analog Input (AI) Channels

Analog Input channels should be hardwired such that choosing the correct circuit for a passive or active transmitter would be
conveniently/easy to take care of (for some AI cards, passive or active support could be selected by means of dip-switches on
corresponding IO- (Input/Output) card).
