Monthly report
1. Create a new worksheet with a list of possible month choices.  Give the
block of cells a range name.

Here we have used the name MONTHS

2. Apply validation to cell B2 so that when you click on the cell you see and
input message telling you what you can do:

Input messages can look messy

3. Extend the validation so that when a user chooses a month that doesn't
exist, they see this message:

This should have been obvious anyway!

4. Save the file with the same name, and then close it down.

II. Pesko Pay - Data Validation

1. Open the file Pesko Pay - Data Validation
Hours must be between 0 and 26.

2. Set data validation on cells D4:D15 to restrict users to only typing in a whole

number between 0 and 26
3. Try to type in the following values into column D and check that the data
validation rules work and only the last item is allowed:

 11.5
 -7
 38
 17

In column F we want to choose the department name from a list to avoid typing errors:
We need to set up a validation list.

4. Set a data validation list for cells F4:F15, using the range name that is already
set up on the DV Range tab called Department Names.
5. When you click in a cell in column F, you should now be able to choose a
department name from the drop-down list:

A drop-down list should appear.

6. Use Save As... to save the file in your own new Excel work folder.
III. Blank model filled in
1. Open the file Blank model filled in.
2. Apply validation to the sex, drugs and rock and roll input figures so that when you
click on the cell, the following message appears:

Use the Input Message tab on the data validation dialog box to achieve this

3. You have been appointed as the new manager for your celebrity - amend your
validation for the sex, drugs and rock and roll figures so that any new figures
input can not exceed £5,000:

Note that this validation will not affect existing figures in the cells

4. Apply outlining so that your Inputs sheet looks like this initially:

You can expand either or both sections if required
