Introduction

Statics is a branch of mechanics which studies the effects and distribution of forces of
rigid bodies which are remain at rest. In this area of mechanics, the body in which forces are
acting is assumed to be rigid. It is one of the basis subjects of Civil Engineering and is the
mother subject of structural branch. This subject course tackles topics such as resultant and
equilibrium of force system, analysis of trusses, friction, centroids and center of mass, and
moment of inertia.

This book is a compilation of lecture notes, seatwork, quizzes and exams which are done
in this subject starting from the beginning and end of the first semester of school year 2015-
2016. This subject opened my eye and gave me the feeling of being a true civil engineer, and for
that I am greatly thankful to my professor for showing us how interesting this subject is.

I have faced lots of challenges while taking up this course, but I didn’t give up. I started
this course with a “bang” and will end it with a “bang” even though I didn’t perfect all the
seatwork, quizzes, and exams, what’s important is that I learned a lot of lesson from my
mistakes and that I have fun in this subject. My dear classmates are one of the reasons why I
kept on fighting till the last drop of my blood in this course. We unite each other and went to
the battle of brains together. We’re like pirates but the good ones, we set sail and stole the
greatest treasure that our professor wanted us to grab and now here we are in the very end of
this course, we are ready to conquer the world of advance math. Thanks to everyone! Statics
was definitely a great stepping stone towards our dream, to be a Civil Engineer.
Acknowledgement

I would like to acknowledge God for giving me everything. My knowledge, body, soul,
dreams, inspirations, love ones, friends, family, pets, clothes, and many more! Truly I would not
exist in this world without you. I want to worship you and praise you forever and I have no
doubt about it. He says, “Those who honor me, I will honor.” And he does. “For God
demonstrated his own love towards us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”
(Romans 5:8). So let us worship God.

I would also like to acknowledge my professor, Engr. Gertrudo Regondola, you inspired
me a lot. You are doing your best for us and for that we are very blessed to have you as our
teacher. You have motivated me in a way that I have never felt before. My dream of becoming
a civil engineer king was lightened up by you. Thank you for treating us fairly, and I admire your
existence in this world and for coming in my life. I will do my very best to achieve my dream and
I will not put your efforts to me into waste. My dream is a dream that will come true in the
future. I am weak before, but you help me get stronger today and in the future I may show you
your planted seed grow into a gigantic tree.

I would also like to acknowledge my classmates for always being there for me in times
of trouble, pain, sadness, joy, and sometimes broken heartedness due to academics and love
life. You are truly a great people in my life. Thank you for the teamwork we have and the unity
of our class. Our teamwork is truly a legend *Insert laugh hahaha I enjoyed this subject more
with you by my side. Thanks for teaching me some lessons that I wasn’t able to get easily and
for lending me help when I needed the most.

Lastly, I would like to acknowledge my family. I love you forever and always.
For my father, Engr. Dante F. Rodriguez

I Love You Dad
