1 Bring up the Start Up Checks display.


Would you like to proceed to the operation mode?

Do not vibrate the machine. Vibration affects


printing quality.

The Start Up Checks display appears.

2 Check each component of the processor.

1. Open the processor top cover.


2. Make sure the upper guides are set.
3. Make sure the squeegee unit is set.
4. Make sure the rack stopper is set.

5. Close the processor top cover.

3 Refill the processing tanks with water.

4 Process a control strip.

5 Clean the calibration plate of the colorimeter unit.
In response to the message Clean the calibration plate of colorimeter unit, follow the cleaning procedure shown below.

1. Remove the calibration plate from the colorimeter unit.


2. Wear protective gloves (rubber gloves).
3. Wipe the measurement area of the calibration plate gently using a firmly-squeezed damp cloth
with a neutral detergent.
4. Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth so that the measurement area is not scratched.
5. Store the calibration plate to the colorimeter unit.

6 Carry out the daily setup.


For details, refer to pages 3 and 4.

7 When the setup has been finished, the start up checks are completed.
The Order Display is displayed, and printing can be carried out.

8 Clean the film loading section and film outlet section.

1. Clean the film set feeder.


Remove dust around the film inlet, film outlet and brush holder using the blower brush.
Wipe the roller using the firmly-squeezed damp cloth.

2. Remove dust in the film receiving box using a vacuum cleaner.


If it is dirty, wipe it gently with the firmly-squeezed damp cloth.

Daily setup
To make good prints, be sure to carry out the daily setup.

1 (Example)

Select the paper type by clicking (arrow button).


Test print is created and colorimeter is calibrated.

When two or more paper types are available


The paper type selection display appears again.
Repeat the test print for all paper types.

If the light source updating is not carried out with the attached film carrier, the screen above will appear.

Carry out the scanner change of light.

Carry out the sensor LED light intensity value adjustment.

4 Insert the test print into
the colorimeter unit.

1 Bring up the Close Down Checks display.


1. Bring up the Order Display and check that no paper is currently being processed.

In this example, no paper is passing.

2. Press the key and select Menu.


Then press the key.

3. Select Close Down Checks and press the key.


The Close Down Checks display appears.

2 Display the daily print totals.


After the confirmation, press the key. or

3 Save the data.

Remove the floppy disk for data backup and store it.

4 Clean the AFC.


Set the cleaning leader into the AFC, following the display instructions.

5 Check whether or not to change the program timer data. or

7 Carry out the automatic cleaning.

Be sure to remove the guides and wash them outside
of the processing solution tank.
Adding excess amounts of water may dilute the
processing solutions.

3. Follow the instruction below after cleaning the upper guides and
squeegee unit.

Soak the upper guide and squeegee unit between CD and BF in water.
For the normal specification (except for CPK-2-28), the upper guide
between CD and BF is the third one from the printer side.
For CPK-2-28 and the SM specification, the upper guide between CD
and BF is the second one from the printer side.
Wipe off water on the other upper guides thoroughly, and reattach them

11 Keep the processor top cover slightly open.

12 Clean the AFC.


Clean the 135/240AFC-II by following the procedure below.

3. Release the locks and open the three film paths.

4. Clean the positions shown below using a blower brush.


Wipe the dirt off the rollers, film path surface, the inside of the winding unit, and the dummy heads with a firmly-squeezed
damp cloth.
If the dirt is removed from the inside of the winding unit or the dummy heads, then wipe them with a cotton swab dipped
in isopropyl alcohol.

Printing operations (from films or storage media)
This section explains how to make prints from films or storage media and how to save image data to storage media.
It also covers some description for the optional storage media drives.

1 Select the desired print channel.


Select an appropriate print channel among the sets of the print size and input/output media which were combined previously.
If the best print channel is unavailable, the setting content can be changed temporarily after a print channel with a similar
combination is selected.
Click the icon corresponding to the desired item via the Order Display and change the setting.
Example 1: When prints are to be made from SmartMedia
Example 2: When the image data is to be saved to CD-R/RW

The following is required only when prints are to be made from the film.

2 Check that the print type is set to Normal Print.

3 Select the Print Method.


(The PJP 6-frames format is explained here as an example.)

4 Specify the number of prints.


If two prints are to be made for each image, it is convenient to specify the number of prints via the Order Display.
If the number of prints varies for each image, set the number of prints to 1 via the Order Display, and then specify the number of
prints for each image after it has been displayed.

The following is required only when index prints are to be made.

5 Specify the number of index prints.

The following is required only when prints are to be made from the film.

6 Set the kind of film.

The following is required only when image data is to be saved to storage media.

7 When saving image data to storage media, insert storage media into the drive.
For the procedure for inserting the storage media, refer to page 13.

The following is required only when prints are to be made from the storage media.

8 Insert the storage media containing the images into the drive, and click START.
IMPORTANT
Before reading image data from storage media, set the media's write protect function to write protect or lock
in order to prevent erasing the data accidently.

When the desired files can be selected


The File Selection display appears.
Click the file to be printed on the left side of the window and click File Selection.
(The selected file appears in the file list on the right side of the window.)
Click Yes: OK.
The Judgment Display for the check of color and density appears.

Example 2: When the green indicator is off, it indicates that data is not being output.
Click on this green indicator first to illuminate.
Next, click this icon, and then click the CD-R/RW icon. (The output settings should
have been carried out referring to the Operator's Manual - Additional Operations -.)

Printing operations (from films or storage media)
The following is required only when prints are to be made from the film.

9 Set the film to the auto film carrier.


IMPORTANT
When setting the film to the auto film carrier, make sure it is processable film. When it is not, make the film
processable condition.
For the procedure, refer to 3.2.4 Faulty film and corrective action in the Getting Started.

10 Check the color and density of the image displayed on the screen and carry out the setting
of images to be printed or saved to storage media.
The display in which the image is being displayed is called Judgment Display.
When you want to interrupt the printing operation, press the key. Then follow the message on the display
monitor.

1. Move the frame cursor to the image to be printed or saved to storage media.
Move the frame cursor using , , or .

2. Check the position of the image.


When the fine adjustment of the image position is necessary, click the "Print image fine adjustment" button using
the mouse to adjust the position.

3. Set the color and density correction values.


Press the color or density correction key (from among , , or ), and set the correction value using
or .

4. Specify the number of prints.


To specify the number of prints to be output, press the key and press the or key.
If there is an image unnecessary for printing, press the key.

5. Set the print size.


The print size can be changed in the order of C, H, and P by clicking the print size button.
When the print name is individually specified to each print size, the name is displayed on the button.

11 Execute printing.
After various settings for the image to be output have been completed, press the key.

12 Repeat the procedures.


Press the key for each order.

13 If the storage media has been set, remove it from the drive.

14 Check the finished prints, thus the printing operation has now been completed.

Setting the storage media
This section also explains the optional storage media drives. For details about how to insert the storage media,
refer to Operator's Manual - Basic Operations -.

Before reading image data from storage media, make sure its write protect function is set to write protect or lock in
order to prevent erasing the data accidently.
Do not allow anything to touch the recording surface and the terminal section, and also keep dust and moisture off
the section.

Setting the IX240 film cartridge
This section explains how to set the IX240 film cartridge into the 135/240 AFC-II (option).

1 Set the 135/240 AFC-II lane to 240.

2 Raise the cartridge holder by pressing the lever.

When the film carrier cannot detect a frame of the film or the film stop position is unstable in printing, carry out
the sensor LED light intensity value adjustment.
IMPORTANT
When a password has been set, the Extension display can not be accessed without entering the password.

1 Bring up the Film Carrier Unit Adjustment display.

Click F via Order Display. → Menu → Extension → Maintenance → Various Adjustment
→ Film Carrier Unit Adjustment
Example: When the 135 lane is selected

2 Click F: Functions.
4 Click YES: OK.
The screen returns to the Film Carrier Unit Adjustment
display and the correction values for each item are displayed.

3 Click Sensor LED Light


Intensity Value Adjustment.

Adjustment starts. For the 135/240 AFC-II, after it completes adjusting one

Cleaning the roller and magnetic head of the 135/240 AFC-II
1. While rotating the damper (gold roller) found when the rear cover is removed, wipe the film path surface
and rollers with a firmly-squeezed damp cloth. Damper

2. Open the magnetic head unit, then wipe the dirt off the heads with a firmly-squeezed damp cloth.
If the dirt is hard to remove, wipe the heads with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol.

Isopropyl alcohol is flammable.


Be sure to keep it away from open flame, and carefully follow the instructions on labels on chemical bottles.

3. Wipe the dirt off the rear side of the 135/240 AFC-II, the film carrier
mount rails and the peripheral area with a cloth.

intensity value adjustment in page 15.
This completes cleaning the roller and magnetic head of the 135/240 AFC-II.

Weekly checks

Cleaning of the pre-exposure advance section

1 Open all the printer doors and the printer top cover.

IMPORTANT
Arm unit 2 is lowered automatically when opening paper advance unit 2. Do not touch the moving arm unit 2
or belt.

3 Remove the pressure guide of the exposure advance unit.


Release the two lock levers and then remove the pressure guide by holding the handle.
IMPORTANT
Be careful not to damage the pressure guide.
Hold the pressure guide firmly when you remove it.

4 Clean the paper path of exposure advance unit and the pressure guide using a blower brush.
If dirt is hard to remove, wipe it off using the firmly-squeezed damp cloth.

Cleaning the air filters (input section)


Vacuum dust from the dust accumulated surface using a vacuum cleaner.
If the dust is not removed, place the dust accumulated surface down and wash it under running water.

For details, refer to section 4, Weekly Checks in the Maintenance Manual.

Restarting the machine
If the machine freezes up during operation (key and mouse are not available), restart the machine by following
the procedure below.
IMPORTANT
The machine may seem to freeze depending on the process, because some processes take a lot of time.
Restart the machine only after ensuring that it has frozen.
If the power is turned off during processing, this machine and devices connected to the machine may malfunction.
Do not turn off the computer switch and the RESET switch during usual operation although there is a procedure
for turning off the switches.

the paper has been fed to the print

4 Shut down the machine by following the procedure below.


When the machine does not close down in Procedure A, carry out the operation in the order of Procedures B, C, D.
After the machine closes down, go to Step 5.

Procedure A
1. Press the Windows key on the computer keyboard.

2. Press the / key on the computer keyboard and


select Shut Down....

3. Press the Enter key on the computer keyboard.


The Shut Down Windows display appears.

5. Press the Enter key on the computer keyboard.


The power lamp of the computer goes off in a few minutes
and the machine will be closed down.

Procedure B (when the machine does not shut down in Procedure A)
1. Press the Ctrl, Alt and Delete keys on the computer
keyboard all together several times.
The Windows Security display appears.
If the Windows Security display does not appear, go to Step C.

2. Press the / / / key on the computer keyboard


and select Shut Down.

3. Press the Enter key on the computer keyboard.
The Shut Down Windows display appears.
4. Press the / key on the computer keyboard
and select Shut down.

5. Press the Enter key on the computer keyboard.


The power lamp of the computer goes off in a few minutes
and the machine will be closed down.

Procedure C (when the machine does not shut down in Procedures A and B)
1. Press the RESET switch using a wire until the display
goes off.
The system is restarted.
If pressing the RESET switch for ten seconds or more does not turn off
the display, go to Procedure D.

IMPORTANT
Though the Start Up Checks display or Order Display
is brought up, the machine condition is not proper for
printing. Do not start printing operations yet.

2. Close down the machine.
For details about how to close down the machine, refer to Steps 3 to 6
in Shutting down the machine in page 21.

Procedure D (when the machine does not shut down in Procedures A, B and C)
1. Press the computer switch using a wire for a while Computer switch
(approx. ten seconds) until the computer power lamp goes off.
The machine will be closed down.

5 Check that the computer power lamp is off, and turn off the circuit breaker.
For the operation procedures of the circuit breaker, refer to Shutting down the machine of the next page.

6 After turning off the circuit breaker, wait ten seconds or more and turn on the
circuit breaker.
The power supply of the machine turns on.
Wait until the scanner is stabilized before processing a film. It will take about ten minutes.

Follow the procedure below when you turn off the power supply for troubleshooting or maintenance.

1 If paper is being processed, wait until all the paper has been fed to the print receiving tray.

2 Rewind the paper and remove all the paper magazines.

3 Press the key on the Close Down Checks display.

4 Select Power OFF by pressing

5 Press the key.

6 Wait a few minutes until the personal


computer power lamp goes off.

7 Check that the personal computer power


lamp is turned off, and then turn off the Circuit breaker

open.

Starting the machine

1 Turn on the main power supply of the machine installation place.

2 Turn on the circuit breaker.


Start the system of this machine.

Clicking the Help Display button brings up the contents of the manuals in which the handling procedures are

The Functions display appears.
