The story of wedding dance by Amador Daguio has happened to be the most painful love story ending

ever written, showing how the culture reigns over love. In my view of this, the story has given me a
heart broke from the beginning to the end. The wedding dance addresses the issues of men and women
stand in society. It is a short story that is greatly impacted the readers and emphasized the underlying
issue in our society. The story has a catchy opening and a unique plot that arouse the interest of the
readers.

This story is all about a husband and wife named Awiyao and Lumnay who have been together for a
long-time. They loved each other but they haven’t blessed a child even though they prayed and
sacrificed a lot for their god Kabunyan. Her husband Awiyao has mocked the men in their tribe for not
having a child because in their culture men should bear a child or else, you’ll be useless. With this,
Awiyao separated with his wife to marry a woman to have a child who will come after him. On the day of
his marriage, his wedding dance ceremony, he went to check Lumnay, explaining why did he do this.
When he left, Lumnay had the courage to join the wedding dance but in the end, she went away.

The story began with a detailed description of Awiyao entering their old house. I was curious about how
it looks like he was like a prison escaping silently from the darkness. The two characters were revealed in
the first part of the story, starting from Awiyao to Lumnay. The descriptions, in the beginning, made me
imagine a dark house as a setting. The problem confronting the characters is the need for a child, for
Awiyao to bear a child he separated from Lumnay and married another woman. I was expecting that in
the end, they will be revealed how the characters went.

The story has an original plot, it also happens to our lives where we will be forced by the culture, by the
standards. This short story has given a different approach that affects the readers, revealing the issues in
society. The underlying conflict of the story made the story authentic; it wasn’t also a cliche plot wherein
it has a happy ending, the story is clearly realistic. The ending of the story left the readers hanging, it
doesn’t end with a happy ending but the author should’ve added if Awiyao had lived a good life with a
child and if Lumnay still alone and what happened to her. The story needs a resolution. The ending
should have given a different scenario. was constructed in one specific time or a one-time event.

In conclusion, the story addresses how society destroyed their love story. I was heartbroken from the
beginning of their separation; I felt the pain of the characters for their need to bear a child. In general,
the story was clear and well-written, the flow and the flashbacks were on point. However, the ending
should’ve been explained more. In the story, the responsibility of men in society has been emphasized,
men having a child to come after him and spread his name. And the standard of being a good wife is
skilled at planting and house chores. Moreover, this story shows that not the story has a happy ending
story.
