So today I’m going to show you the distinct
characteristics of some materials that you know
or maybe you don’t even know. our lesson for
today is Characteristics of Useful and Harmful
materials.

qualities of different materials?
So lets go! Our first destination is the bathroom
station
How many times we wash our hands?1,2,
3..RIGHT! Why do we need detergent bar or
soap in cleaning? 1,2,3…PRECISELY!
We used soap and detergent to keep our self
clean and safe from virus like Covid 19. So in
this time of pandemic always wash our hands
using soap to keep away our self from virus.
So let’s move on to our next station, in the
kitchen ( MATERIALS THAT ADD FLAVORS)
What can you see in the kitchen?
Very good! Catsup, soy sauce, butter etc are
materials that add flavors are condiments
So what is a CONDIMENT? …A condiment is
a spice, sauce, or preparation that is added to
food, typically after cooking, to impart a
specific flavor, to enhance the flavor, or to
complement the dish. 
• Leaves of oregano
• Bay leaves
• Pepper
• Paprika
Kids look at the pictures… what have you seen?
Yes! We have Monosodium glutamate(vetsin)
Citric acid Food color Sodium chloride
(salt)Sodium… and other seasoning. These
materials are examples of MATERIALS THAT
ENHANCE the taste of our food
 
Food additives are not intended to slow down
the threat of microbes or fungus. So, what
purpose do they serve?
manufacturers use additives in their products to
either enhance the flavor, give it a more
desirable appearance or to change its colour.
Some of the most common additives found in
food include salt, vinegar, sweeteners, citric
acid and food colouring.
• Monosodium glutamate(vetsin)
• Citric acid
• Food color
Sodium chloride (salt)
they are Sodium benzoate, Sodium nitrite that
keep our food stay fresh even a long period of
time.
Food preservatives are essentially additives
used in food processing which limit the growth
of dangerous microbes. Even though you can’t
see them, thousands of microscopic germs are
running around on practically every surface we
touch. While some of these germs pose
absolutely no threat, others may cause sickness.
Certain food items, such as beef products and
cheese, act as ideal breeding grounds for these
microbes. The increased moisture content and
protein are essentially microbe magnets, and it
may lead to sickness when a tainted or rancid
product is consumed. Food preservatives are
adding during the manufacturing process to
help limit the growth of microbes and fungus;
therefore, making the product last longer.

So those materials are useful materials because
it can clean, give taste our food and can
preserved food to fresh and safe to eat.
 
Now lets move on to OUR NEXT STATION the
stockroom.what are the harmful materials that
can you see?1,2,3…correct!
How can we say that a material is harmful?

Very good! it is harmful if it is at toxic,
flammable,corrosive and reactive.
What is toxic? Toxic
What about materials that are flammable?
Flammable
Look at the pictues on the screen..What have

CORROSIVE MATERIALS…
