Electric Welding Machine

A welding machine is a tool used by humans to combine iron or metal materials
into one unit so that it can produce a continuous connection to be used according to its
function. In general, welding machines have various types, one of which is an electric
welding machine. Electric Welding is a welding where the heat source is obtained from
electrical energy. The electrical energy is then received by the welding machine and
converted into heat energy when the electrode poles and the workpiece meet, resulting in
an ion exchange that causes an electric arc. Electric welding machines have various types
and functions, each of which includes SMAW (Shield Metal Arc Welding), TIG (Tungsten
Inert Gas), and MIG (Metal Inert Gas).
Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), also known as manual metal arc welding
(MMA or MMAW), flux shielded arc welding or informally as stick welding, is a manual arc
welding process that uses a consumable electrode covered with a flux to lay the weld. The
type of electric welding machine MMA / MMAi is the type of electric welding machine that
is most widely used by welder. Because indeed the need for a welder that is not too heavy
and very common makes this type of MMA / MMAi electric welding machine highly
recommended for use.
 Advantages of SMAW Welding Machines:
 SMAW welding can be used to weld all positions.
 Can be used to weld all types of ferrous materials.
 Welding machine prices are cheaper than GMAW or SAW welding machines.
 The equipment is easy to carry anywhere and quite compact.
 Can be used to weld the thickness of the material we want.
 Disadvantages of SMAW Welding Machines:
 Must often do electrode installation when welding, because the length of the weld
wire is limited.
 Must perform welding slag or scale service after welding process.
 Can only be used to weld Ferrous materials.
 In certain types of electrodes must be oven before welding.

The second type of electric welding machine is the TIG type electric welding
machine or you can call it Tungsten Inner gas. The gas referred to here is better known to
people as argon gas. Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding, is an arc welding process that uses
non-consumable tungsten electrodes to produce welds. The function of this TIG type
electric welding machine can be used to perform welding on mild steel, aluminum,
stainless steel and brass.
 Advantages of TIG Welding Machine (Tungsten Inert Gas);
 The welding results obtained are better and of higher quality on non-ferrous and
ferrous materials.
 In the atmosphere there are various impurities that can reduce the quality of the
weld. If the welding technique is done properly, all of these impurities can be
removed
 Can be used to make high quality / high quality root passes from 1 side on a variety
of materials
 Disadvantages of TIG Welding Machine (Tungsten Inert Gas):
 Compared to other welding processes, the fill rate of TIG / GTAW is lower
 In order for welding from the 1 side to produce high quality welds, tighter joint
alignment controls are required
 In order to avoid gas and porosity defects, TIG / GTAW requires better connection
cleanliness
 For air speeds above 5 mph, extra care is needed to maintain inert gas protection
above the weld crater

The last type of electric welding machine is the MIG electric welding machine. MIG
electric welding machine or you can call it Metal Inner Gas, which means that this MIG
electric welding machine can weld metal (metal) using gas. The gas in question is CO2 gas
or what we both know is carbon dioxide gas. So in essence this MIG electric welding
machine is operated with the help of CO2 gas for combustion. The function of this type of
MIG electric welding machine is used on thin metal or iron plates ranging from 1 mm to
very thick thicknesses. So it is not surprising, the use of this MIG electric welding machine
is also commonly used for welding needs on the body or hull of a ship.
 Advantages of MIG (Metal Inert Gas) Welding Machine:
o Welding using a MIG Welding Machine is faster than welding using an MMA /
SMAW welding machine and produces results that are more durable, continuous
o Does not produce slag or slag, as occurs with MMA / SMAW welding machines
o Very efficient and fast processing.
o The MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding process itself is very suitable for heavy
equipment and construction work
 Disadvantages of MIG (Metal Inert Gas) Welding Machines:
o There may be burn back at any time
o Initial setup is a bit difficult
o Unstable arc
o Cannot be used in the open area.

To conclude, Electric welding machines have several types including SMAW

(Shield Metal Arc Welding), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), and MIG (Metal Inert Gas). Each
type has its own advantages and disadvantages. With the advantages and disadvantages
of each electric welding machine, its use can be adjusted according to your needs. For
example, the needs of homes, workshops, small industries and large industries.
