A. INTRODUCTION

1
1. Greet the audience
Good afternoon, Mrs Lurex and friends!
2. Introduce yourself
My name is Trần Võ Minh Quân, and I am a member of class 19CLC01
3. Gain the audience’s interest & attention
Let’s start with a brief story of my highschool: I struggled with many things in
grade 11, ranging from my grades to social life. I was so stressed that I felt
nearly numb with my feelings. A friend of mine saw me struggle and he
persuaded me to play Players Unknown’s BattleGround with him. After the first
try, I felt much more relaxed and ever since I have been better than before.
4. Introduce the topic
What is Players Unknown’s BattleGround? It’s a battle royale video game.

Despite being problematic in many cases, the game still offers a few benefits.
6. Give the specific purpose of the speech
I am here to show you its positive impacts on your life if you play wisely!
7. Relate the topic to the audience
Playing video games is one of the most controversial topics. Hopefully after
today’s session, you will know the bright side of video games

B. BODY
(Transition: Let’s move on to the first aspect)
1. PUBG affects our cognitive abilities positively.
-PUBG enhances your decision-making. Your job is to decide ”to fight or to
flight”. These have to be clear and quick, while not being flinched. Events
requiring decision-making surely help in real life indiretly and directly. Since in
real life situation, great decision-making can turn the table and help you achieve
your goals. PUBG is a great place to practice that. Because ”practice makes
perfect”.
+ “In the game world, you are forced to define and execute the task; if your
definitions get blurry and are poorly organised, you will have trouble playing.”
(Steven Johnson).
+ Back to my story that I told you at the beginning, my mind processed poorly
at that time. With the help of the game, I could regain my decision-making in
real life as I had to execute decisions constantly throughout the game. This
makes a huge contribution to my recovery.
- The game improves the players’ attention span. Players are required to have
high awareness of their surroundings: their enemies, resources, other aspects.
Thus the players visualize a mental map to navigate in the virtual world.
+FPS angle in the game where we can see the enemies, resources + a map of the
game. => to visualize what to see. (Visual aids: Photos).
+ According to Daphne Bavelier, brain imaging techniques are used to find the
impact of games on the minds. of the people. Many changes can be found, out of
which the major changes are in the brain networks that control attention.
3
parietal cortex (controls the orientation of attention), second,
the frontal lobe (controls how one sustains attention) and third,
the anterior cingulate (how one locates and regulates attention and
resolves conflict). Now when we do brain imaging, we find that all three of
these networks are actually much more efficient in people that play action
games.
+Visual aids: parietal cortex, frontal lobe and anterior cingulate.
(What about its impacts on social life? Is it REALLY anti-social as articles, teachers, and parents
indicates?)

2. It is a pro-social activity if responsibly.

- The squad mode in the game is a battle of 25 groups of 4 players. This means,
if you want to be the last survivor, you have to coordinate with the other
teammates well. Moreover, by sharing the sole target of the game: be the
victory, all four players need to put aside their real-life conflicts to work towards
it. => By doing this, the team morale (Group flow) will increase.
+ Berni Good: “Researchers from Edge Hill University are studying Group Flow
(Team Spirit), looking at solo versus group flow dynamics. They suggest that
collective competence opportunities are built into the game, so that the group's
skills and development are at play.”
- It is a great way to connect with your friends. Bonding activities like this let
the players share moments together, in other words: memories. Whether they are
good or bad ones, the players eventually discuss about that in order to gain
experience or just for fun. Either way promotes social connection! Reclusive
players can overcome their disadvantages to be gregarious to interact with the
team!

4
+Numb as I was back then, playing with friend relieved my stress as well as
help me to open up about my feelings. Without that, I couldn’t be a sociable
person.

C. CONCLUSION
1. Signal the ending
Gaming is like studying. The more time you spend harnessing it, the better you
become.
2. Restate the central idea of the speech
PUBG is not only a means of entertainment but also a learning tool which helps
you improve your mentality as well as social life!
3. Summarize the main points
With the right amount of time in the game, you will surely be stronger mentally
as well as be more open to other people!
4. Give the final thoughts/comments/message
However, just like anything else; spending too much time playing PUBG is
detrimental to your life. As Mr Han told Xiao Dre in the Karate Kid: “Wu ji bi
fan” which means too much is bad.
