Clarinet Instrument Assembly, Hand Position, and Carriage

1) Use the “additive” approach as a reward.

2) Start w/M. P., barrel, & upper joint.(hold barrel w/right hand)
3) Left Hand
a) Hold the “test tube.”
b) Place thumb at “2 o’clock” position.
c) Place remaining fingers on tone holes.
d) Play “hovering helicopters.”
e) Play “hand position game.”
f) Start w/G, slur down to “C,” & back up.
g) Repeat “f)” as many times as possible in one breath.
4) Upon above success, either “graduate” to adding the lower joint
or introduce tonguing, then “graduate.”
5) Right Hand
a) Hold the “test tube.”
b) Place thumb nail under the rest.
c) Place remaining fingers on tone holes.
d) Play “hovering helicopters.”
e) Play “hand position game” w/whole horn
f) W/“hovering helicopters” balance horn between thumb & upper
teeth (sets embouchure).
g) Start w/G, slur down to “E,” & back up.
h) Repeat “f)” as many times as possible in one breath.
i) Repeat “g)” with legato tongue.
j) Upon above success, “graduate” to adding the bell.
