RATIONALE

In the 21st century, technology has greater demand and flexibility in terms of the teaching

and learning process. The advancement of information communication technology proliferates

rapidly nowadays. Mostly, educational institutions in different countries adopt and integrate E-

learning. Ghirardini (2011) defined that E-learning as the use of computer and internet

technologies to deliver a broad array of solutions to enable learning and improve performance. In

higher institutions, it provides better accessibility to connect with the students in the digital

world so that this becoming a trend and alternative approach to the traditional classroom.

Currently, educational institutions create and utilize their website to easily share information and

manage the performance of the students, whereas face to face interaction is not always needed.

Moreover, E-learning deals with students' learning, and they can learn on their own and

develops their level of confidence and independence. Both students and teachers gave equal

opportunity to broaden their knowledge and improve their skills. Also, the benefits of using

electronic media supported by the web sources can foster the effectivity of communication

worldwide, the interaction itself, the information and messages want to convey can quickly

receive because of its fast-paced access (Wang et al., 2016). The study of Haron et al. (2016)

stated that there are much communication approaches in English Language Learning using E-
learning, whereas are teachers-students interaction and also student-student interaction. Also,

concluded that effective utilization of technology in language learning, it can give a better

opportunity to students to acquire English as their second language compared to depending on

the teachers' capability to engage them in a traditional language classroom. It serves as an

essential tool for the collaborative language learning of the students. It shows that incorporating

technology in English Language Learning (ELL) will create more meaningful and flexible

approaches for the students (Haron et al. 2016). It fosters improvement to the students’ language

skills as they perform reading, listening, speaking, and writing via the different E-learning

resources and activities (Soliman,2014)

However, E-learning has its limitation and most likely appropriate only for individuals

with the proper discipline to accomplish all tasks independently and apply all the learning that

they have obtained in their lessons (Haron et al. 2016). Some possible challenges and issues may

affect students in utilizing E-learning relevant to language, communication, and computer skills.

Agustina and Budhisantosa (2018) in their study explained that even though the teacher

incorporates the technology in teaching English in the classroom, they had difficulties to adjust

the material they found from the web sources to meet students' needs and characteristics.

Soliman (2014) discussed the multiple disadvantages of E-learning moodle are the following:

lack of face-to-face teaching and body language will create " solitary activity" because the

interaction is only virtual and different from the traditional classroom; the absence of actual

feedback that is most of the students needed; and some of the students do not have adequate

access to the Internet. Novice learners may be unable to participate if they lack personal support

(Nielson, 2011). On the other hand, with all the benefits of E-learning, it still constitutes several
disadvantages that may affect the learning process that happened online and the traditional

classroom.

As third-year BSED students are the users of the E-learning app for their learning, it is to

identify and assess the challenges in utilizing the E-learning app in the teaching-learning process.

It will help to find solutions to how the students and teachers effectively incorporate electronic

media. This research will discuss the impact of the e-learning app on the academic performance

being experienced by the students as part of their flexible learning. It will increase understanding

of how to effectively integrate technology in their way to authentic and flexible learning today.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aimed to assess the utilization of E-Learning App related to the Level of

Academic Performance of third-year students.

Specifically, it will seek to answer the following questions:

1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using E-Learning App?

2. How do the respondents assess the E-Learning App related to the Level of Academic

Performance of third-year students with reference to:

2.1 educational activities

2.2 technology competencies

2.3 student’s attitude

3. Is there any significant relationship between the assessment E-learning app and

Academic Performance of the respondents?

4. What problems do the students encounter in utilizing e-learning app related to their

academic performance?

5. What action plan may be proposed to support the academic performance in utilizing E-

learning app ?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The result of this study will be beneficial to the following:

Batangas State University. The study will support to achieve the University’s goal of

producing highly qualified graduates. This may assess the utilization of E-Learning App related

to the level of Academic Performance and to develop ways to come up with an effective teaching

and learning process.

College of Teacher Education. The research will provide information that will help the

College to assess the utilization of E-Learning App related to the level of Academic Performance

of third-year students.

Faculty Members. The study helps the Faculty members to assess the most appropriate

teaching strategies that can increase the level of academic performance of the students related to

utilization of e-learning app that may results to quality of education.

Students. The research helps the CTE students to engage with different E-learning apps,

and to increase the awareness in overcoming the difficulties that the respondents may experience.

Researchers. The study increases the researcher’s awareness in utilization of E-Learning

App related to the Level of Academic Performance. This may also help to improve skills of

analytical thinking, cooperation, skill, and the ability to collect, organize and present data.
Future Researchers. The study will serve as reference for future studies and may help to

guide future researchers to conduct related study of Assessment of E-Learning App related to the

Level of Academic Performance.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research Design

The researchers will utilize Descriptive-survey research. The aim of this study is to

identify the Development of E-Learning App related to the Level of English Proficiency of

Third-year Pre-service Teachers. This focuses on the advantages and disadvantages of E-

Learning App being experienced by the pre-service teachers. It will also help the researchers to

assess if the E-Learning App is an effective educational tool.

Subject of the Study

The respondents of the study are the Third-year College of Teacher Education students at

Batangas State University ARASOF-Nasugbu for Academic Year 2020-2021.

The researchers choose these respondents because the researchers believe that the chosen

respondents would give them sufficient and evident information for the study. It is an advantage

for the researchers to conduct the research in Batangas State University ARASOF- Nasugbu

College of Teacher Education because the researchers have connections and they encountered

the participants.

Data Gathering Instrument

The questionnaire is the major instrument used in this study. It was designed to obtain the

information on how the Development of E-learning app related to the level of English
proficiency of Third year Pre-service teachers. This is to assess the effects of E-learning app to

the English Proficiency of the students.

The researcher made a questionnaire to really assess the utilization of E-learning app
related to the level of Academic Performance of third-year students.
