CHAPTER 1

The Problem and Its Background

INTRODUCTION

Academic performance is one of the processes that guides the youth to have
skills that can be adopted for in future responsibility. According to our research it is
determined the achievement of senior high school pupils in academics and the ability to
adapt to online learning. Here we can see the effort of the students in learning even
though the way of their learning is too difficult. There are also negatives that can be
obtained, but this is not included in our research, because we will get knowledge that
can be adapted to the study of online learning. Maybe there are also young people who
have difficulty with online learning because there is no internet, no equipment, but there
are also those who have made modular learning for others who are facing it.

According to our research, many achievements can be obtained from online

learning just like the development of communication, being able to learn quickly,
resourcefulness, etc. Online teaching promotes learning by encouraging the students
use of various learning strategies at hand and increases the level of their commitment to
studying their majors. Virtual world represents an effective learning environment,
providing users with an experience-based information acquisition. Adapting this ability
will be of great help for our future purposes and other projects that we may encounter.
Academic achievement is associated for you to recognize your achievements and will
have more importance.

In addition to promoting completion of the online courses, higher education

organizations have offered whole courses online as a core component of their curricula for
the past 20 years. Also, during the past few years, the proportion of students who do
not participate in any online courses has decreased. Therefore, it is completely

acceptable to assert that online learning is unquestionably a platform for education.

Similar to this, academics paid close attention to how satisfied and successful online
learners were with their education. They used a variety of theoretical models to assess
this information. In this study, students' prior experiences with online platforms are
referred to as their preparedness and desire to use and adapt to various online
platforms, giving them the necessary support and assistance.

A key factor in this process is the students' background with regard to online
learning, as previous research has shown that there are implementation problems such as
a lack of qualified lecturers, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, insufficient student
readiness, and students' reluctance to accept online learning platforms as well as
Learning Management System (LMS) platforms as educational tools.A huge important
factor is "PERCEIVED CAUSE" is more significant than the "actual" cause itself. A
student's emotional response to a bad test score is more important than. the score
itself. It can establish a pattern of future behavior that can be self defeating. The
COVID-19 pandemic led to an unexpected and rapid shift to remote learning for
students around the world. In the space of a few weeks, the very nature of learning and
instruction was transformed (Australian Academy of Science, 2020). Learning and
instruction moved to remote online modes a speed and scale.

Academic success depends on a number of factors. Two of which are motivation

and stress. It is a crucial component for seniors in high school because they are about to
start college and because they better academic results produce better life's
opportunities. Theories on stress and motivation might range from they are for the
Asian and Filipino students. Subliminal perceptions of stress, motivation, and studying in
a classroom. Although the use of online learning in the academic community has
expanded quickly, not enough is known about learners' prior backgrounds and
experiences with online learning. In the past, research has focused on certain aspects of
San Jose Community High School

students' attitudes and experiences, such as collaboration with their instructors,

thequality of online courses, or using a particular learning management system. For
some function of its problem we can get a solution through it.

The goal of the current study is to identify students who will be satisfied with
online
courses by highlighting the impacts of online learning platforms on student’s
satisfaction in relation to their background and prior experiences with online learning
platforms. This study also investigates the relationship between student autonomy,
student-instructor communication, and student collaboration as well as the implications of
transactional distance theory (TDT). As a result, this study looks into how well students
perform academically on online platforms. It applies Bloom theory to measure student’s
performance on four main domains: understanding, remembering, applying, and
analyzing. The design and development of online courses may be significantly
influenced by the findings of this study. Similar to this, academics paid close attention to
how satisfied and successful online learners were with their education.

They used a variety of theoretical models to assess this information. The study
issue thus arises from the requirement to develop a model to identify the key pieces of
evidence based on information about the background, interactions, and experiences of
students in online learning environments that affect their academic success and
satisfaction. In order to use online platforms to enhance students' learning experiences,
this designed model must serve as guidance for instructors and decision-makers in the
online education sector. In this study, students' prior experiences with online platforms
are referred to as their preparedness and desire to use and adapt to various online
platforms, giving them the necessary support and assistance. Online courses are
attempting to link social networking elements with expert material because internet
resources are expanding constantly. This being the case, adaptability may be a

personal attribute that is highly relevant through times of online remote learning and
instruction, such as during COVID-19 and any other future periods of disrupted
learning. Adaptability is the capacity to regulate one’s behaviors, thoughts, and feelings in
response to novel, variable, uncertain, and unexpected situations and circumstances
(Martin et al., 2012, 2013). Adaptability has been identified as an important capacity.

Since that flexibility is intended to precisely Managing change, uncertainty, and

novelty, variability, and uncertainty as COVID-19 limitations and lockdowns, which also
include times for online learning during this period. In our research we had data on

METHODOLOGY

This chapter focuses on the explanation of the research techniques and methods
used by the researchers to systematically address the particular topics that were
submitted for inquiry. This chapter explains the research design, study participants,
research instrument, data collection procedure, and data analysis.

RESEARCH DESIGN
The descriptive research method will be employed in the study. According to
Qualtrics, Descriptive research is a research method seeks to determine the properties of
a population or a particular phenomenon. Descriptive research can identify patterns in
group traits to discover essential everything you need to understand, apart from why
something happen. Due to the nature of the descriptive study design and randomness of
the observed sample groups, descriptive studies are deal for cross-sectional studies.
Basically, the demographics of the can vary widely and the goal is gain insights from
the group, this is very useful if the research want to understand the behaviors and
preferences of wider population (Qualtrics 2023). To gather more data about this study,
we have conductive an interview in a form of giving survey questionares about the
academic achievement can adopt in online learning, and their coping strategies the
survey questionares will be given to the high school students of San Jose Community
High School, after administrating the questionares, data that was gathered will be
organized according to the result of the given survey questionares.

RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY

The chosen respondents of the study is composed of fifteen (15) students in
Legislative section and fifteen (15) students in Executive section for a total of thirty (30)
students from HUMSS-11 strand in San Jose Community High School. All of these
participants is selected through cluster sampling. This sampling method is conducted
where a population is divided into a multiple group. Instead of whole population, the
researcher form a smaller group of participants.

LOCALE OF THE STUDY

The research study will be conduct at San Jose Community High School. The
school was established in 1969 and located in Nicolasa Virata, General Mariano
Alvarez, Cavite. It is a coeducational school that offers general education in both the
junior high and senior high school curricula, with the senior high school offering (a)
accountancy and business management (b) science and technology, engineering, and
mathematics (stem) (c) humanities and social sciences (d) technology and livelihood
education. (home economics). The location of implementation was chosen by the
researcher because it would provide the data required for pupils with oral
communication abilities. In the second semester of the academic year 2023–2024, the
study will be carried out.

SAMPLING TECHNIQUE
The researchers acquire data for the study via cluster sampling. Cluster sampling is
a type of probability sampling that splits a population into clusters before choosing a
representative sample from one of these clusters at random. The responders are
chosen based on their performance in prior online courses, their ability to adjust their
skills, and their academic success.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
