email outreach.
follow this checklist for outreach success:

☑ I have targeted the right person (a decision maker)

☑ I have verified the email address

☑ I have identified a reason to be contacting them

☑ I have ended my email with a question

☑ I have included my casual-but-professional signature with links

☑ I haven’t sent anything unsolicited

conversation skills.
enter conversations with observations or light-hearted comments:

- excuse me, do you know if they serve [ITEM] here?

- the weather is crazy - did you get caught in it?
- wow, this is a long cue! How long have you been waiting for?
- this place is amazing/tiny/whatever
- is this the [WHATEVER]?
- what type of [FOOD/DRINK TYPE] is that?
- the [FOOD/VENUE/THING] looks great!
- the “fake favour” (can you hold this for a sec’?)
- which do you think is best? (i.e. drink, dessert, etc.)
- have you heard of [EVENT/PERSON] before?
- quote a movie!
- I bet [OBSERVATION] - what do you think?
- I don’t know ANYONE here! I find it so hard to enter conversations…
- you look like…
- Cheers!
- Hi!

then follow up with a question:

- who do you know here?

- how are you feeling about [TOPIC]?
- do you come here often?
- are you from the area?

and then you’re ready for introductions.

use your five sense to think of ideas:

- what can you see?

- what can you hear?
- what can you feel?
- what can you taste?
- what can you smell?
