1. Describe the purpose for the original collection of graphics that you created.

I chose the photo as a representation of my photo editing skills to use on my portfolio. This is

a picture of my dog Chili. During my morning meetings with students we have a share time,

depending on the day. This week students had the opportunity to share a photo, a piece of

artwork, or an item in their home with the rest of the class. I chose to share this photo of my dog

with my students.

I chose the scanned image of a piece of student artwork to use as a representation of my skills

with scanning and resizing for my portfolio. The scanned image is a picture drawn by a student

that was sent to me in the mail. This is another example of something a student may share with

me during one of our weekly meetings for share time. Sharing artwork, photos or other special

items helps students to get to know one another even while learning online.

I chose to create the paint image as flowers to show my creativity to my students. This image

could be something I share with my students or that I use as an example for my students. Once

again, sharing creativity, parts of our lives and things that are important to one another can help

us to become a closer classroom community.

I chose the outside image of WGU’s logo because my website is also intended for future

employers, my current employer and prospective WGU students. I am hoping by incorporating

the WGU graphic, those who are interested in getting a masters may be enticed to learn more

about the M.E.D Learning and Technology program.

2.   Describe a target audience for the graphics collection you created.

a.  Justify why the target audience from part B2 is appropriate for the graphics

collection you created.

I have two target audiences. One audience is potential employers in the future, my current

workplace or those interested in the WGU master’s program. The photos that were edited and

shared on my website truly reflect my skills and ability to edit photos and graphics. The photos

and graphics are simple, appropriate, eye-catching, and relatable.

The second audience is my students. We have share time on a weekly basis and this photo

is a way for me to connect with students, especially since we are learning online and do not have

as many opportunities to get to know one another. The photo represents an important part of my

life and gives the students a good example of something they could also share. The scanned

image gives students an example of a piece of artwork they could share and the painted photo

shows students an example of a piece of artwork they could share from their computer.

2. Discuss the process that you followed to create each image so that someone else could

follow your steps to create similar images.

Photo - Image

First, I sent the photo I wanted to use from my phone to e-mail. Once the photo was sent to

my e-mail, I right clicked the photo to save it to my desktop. I saved the photo as original per

request from the instructions. Next, I went and saved the photo another three times using a

different name. I used the names resized, cropped, and adapted to match with task 2 directions. I

felt this was the best way to edit the images come time to make the necessary changes.
Resized

To start, I went back to my desktop and clicked on the photo named “resized”. I was

instructed to resize the image 640 x 480 or smaller. Once I clicked on the image it popped up on

my screen. Next, I clicked on the “…” on the very top-right corner and scrolled down to click

“resize”. Please note that this may look slightly different based on the computer you use. I

currently use a Surface Pro. After clicking re-size, it gave me options to choose a given

dimension or a custom dimension. I chose to customize my dimensions. To customize my

dimensions, I typed in 380 for the width and 480 for the height. As soon as I entered the numbers

I clicked “save resized copy”.

Cropped

The second picture I chose to edit was the photo labeled “cropped” which was already

saved onto my desktop. I double-clicked the photo named “cropped” to begin editing. Once the

photo popped up, I clicked on “edit & create” located at the very top of the page and scrolled

down to click “edit”. Once I clicked the “edit” button, the crop & rotate option came up first on

my screen. You will see 4 white dots in each corner of your photo which you click to move

inwards and outwards to show how cropped you want your picture to be. I chose to crop the

photo so you could only see the dog and nothing else in the background. Once you have moved

the dots inward to a position you like the photo will automatically adjust for you. After this step

you can click the bottom of the page to “save a copy” or “save”.

Adapted
The third picture I chose to edit was the photo labeled “adapted” which was already

saved onto my desktop. I double-clicked the photo named “adapted” to begin editing. Once the

photo popped up on my screen, I clicked “edit & create” located at the very top of the page and

scrolled down to click “edit”. Once I clicked the “edit” button, I saw at the top of the page that I

can click on “filters”. After I clicked on “filters”, many different filters will show on the right

hand-side of the screen. I chose a pre-made filter named “Mercury” which is like a black and

white photo. As soon as you are finished choosing a filter of choice you can click “save a copy”

or “save” at the bottom of the screen.

Scanned Image

I found the picture that I wanted to use which was a drawing a student sent me in the

mail. I put the picture on the scanner and closed the lid. I went to my computer and used the HP

Smart Printer Software, where I was able to digitally scan the image and save it as a PDF. I

named the image “scanned”. I then saved the PDF again and named the file “Scanned_adapted”.

Next, I double-clicked the PDF named “scanned” to open it. Once it was open, I clicked

on file at the very top-left corner. I then scrolled down to click “save as” and saved the PDF as

a .jpg image. I went back to the other “scanned_adapated” PDF and followed the same steps.

Once both PDF’s were saved as .jpg images, I double-clicked the “Scanned_adapated”

image which opened within the editing application. I was instructed to resize the image 640 x

480 or smaller. Once I clicked on the image it popped up on my screen. Next, I clicked on the

“…” on the very top-right corner and scrolled down to click “resize”. After clicking re-size, it

gave me options to choose a given dimension or a custom dimension. I chose to customize my

dimensions. To customize my dimensions, I typed in 400 for the width and 306 for the height. As

soon as I entered the numbers I clicked “save” to update the image.

Original Image

I chose to use Microsoft paint to create my image. First, I selected the paint brush at the

top bar of the program. Right next to the paint brush was an option to click on a color of choice. I

chose to use yellow for the center of my flowers. Next, I used the fill option, which looks like a

paint bucket to fill in the petals of my flowers. This option is located next to the paint brush

option on the top bar. Last, I saved the image to my desktop to be used within my portfolio. I

named the image as “paint”. I also saved another copy to my desktop but named the image

“paint_adapted”.

Once I had both images saved to my desktop, I double clicked the “paint_adapted” image

which opened within the editing application. I was instructed to resize the image 640 x 480 or

smaller. Once I clicked on the image it popped up on my screen. Next, I clicked on the “…” on

the very top-right corner and scrolled down to click “resize”. After clicking re-size, it gave me

options to choose a given dimension or a custom dimension. I chose to customize my

dimensions. To customize my dimensions, I typed in for the width and 427 for the height. As

soon as I entered the numbers I clicked “save” to update the image.

Outside Source Image

I decided to use a WGU logo as my outside sourced image. I went to WGU’s main

website and right clicked on the logo at the top of the page. After I right clicked the image, I

saved the image as “outside” to my desktop.
