Compound Words.

 Objective: Students will be able to apply existing knowledge in compound words

to use digital tools like word and google images to brainstorm and organize new

ideas by working together to create fun and graphic compound words.

 Materials: Microsoft Word, Google Images, Word Art, Dictionary

 Suggested Group Size: Groups of two (partners)

 Procedures:

-Start by having partners brainstorm what five compound words they want to use

for this project.

-Have students look up the words in their dictionary for the correct spelling.

-Students open Microsoft Word on their computer.

-Students also open Google Images on their internet.

-Go to Word Art on Microsoft Word to create the first half of your compound

word. Play with font sizes and colors if you’d like. Get creative!

-Now use google images to choose your graphic for the first half of the compound

word.

-Once you find your image you can click on it and then right-click to “Save Image

As…”
-Example: My compound word 1 of 4 is “butterfly.” I now will type in “butter”

into word art and create the first half of my word. Then go to Google Images and

type in “butter” and select an image I want onto my document. I will save this

image. Then go back to my word document and click >Insert>Picture>From this

device. I will select the image I just saved, and it will come onto my screen.

-Now I will select the image I just inserted and click the little rainbow icon that

says, “layout options.” I will select the third rainbow in the first row. This gives
me access to move the image where I would like it to go. I can use the white

circles on the corners of the images to shrink or enlarge the image.

-I will repeat this step for the second half of my compound word.

-I will then do the same steps for the remaining compound words to make four

total. Two on each page.
