The English writing system uses the Latin alphabet, otherwise known as the Roman alphabet.
There are twenty-six letters in total, which consist of twenty-one consonants and the five
vowels -a, -e, -i, -o, and -u. Each letter has two forms: the uppercase and the lowercase.
And for the most part, we do not use diacritics in English.

English is influenced by many different languages, including French, Greek, and Latin.
You can see this in the orthography of many English words. English follows a phonemic rule,
but due to these different influences, the rules are complicated to learn and follow. This is
why some words that sound the same are spelled differently.

Also, the Great Vowel Shift that took place between 1400-1700 accounts for spelling and
pronunciation discrepancies. here are several theories as to why the vowels changed so
much during this time.

One theory states that, due to the fact that many immigrants had to communicate with one
another, English speakers had to adjust their speech so that they could understand.

A language’s alphabet is its building blocks. Trying to learn how to write in English without first learning its
alphabet is a bit like trying to build a brick house without touching the individual bricks! It is impossible to
do a good job that way. So don’t believe language schools and methods that try to teach you otherwise.
You will regret it later.

After you master the fundamentals, your progress will motivate you to learn faster. You will start
recognizing simple English words by just learning the basics.

Also, knowing the alphabet will help with pronunciation. Learning the individual letters of a language will
uncover nuances that are not clear when simply listening to the words.

Completely mastering the English alphabet will give you an excellent head start in learning how to write
and read the language. It will offer you a solid foundation on which to build other language skills. So set a
goal to learn the alphabet so well that you can recite it in your sleep!
