Utilizing strategies to obtain and make the best use of the resources available to the
school is essential. School leaders must maintain a presence and have relationship with the
volunteering. When you give to the community, it builds bridges that can benefit the school.
The relationships my mentor principal has built through the EDC, Lions, and Legion, gives
resources when he needs something at the school, such as a donation of items or human capital.
My superintendent made a comment that will stick with me: a community is only as strong as the
school and the school is only as strong as its community. This statement shows the importance
of working together.
Ethical Responsibilities
Rick Riordan says “Fairness does not mean everyone gets the same. Fairness
means everyone gets what they need.” I feel this quote is very important when looking at school
administrators stewarding school resources. We are grateful to our community relationships and
the churches ensure the school has resources such as food and clothing (especially winter
clothes) to provide for the students who need it. Our mission and vision focus on providing an
environment where all can learn and be successful. Some students need these resources, some
do not. Transparency is important, but so is confidentially and protecting the students who have
additional needs.
Acceptance of individuals and placing all students in the center and focus on growth, providing
resources of fiscal, physical space or personnel will ensure needs are met and growth can occur.
The school is one branch of the community and working together makes both entities stronger.
Working with social services, law enforcement, churches and local business owners ties the
entire community together. Together we are stronger and can support the youth in a safe
community and school. We can all work to positively build the next generation.
