OBSERVATIONS AND REACTIONS

The Agrometeorological Station (Agro-Met) is another derivative station

geared with multi-parameter weather sensors which can simultaneously
measure wind speed and direction; air temperature; air humidity; air
pressure, rain amount, duration and intensity, soil moisture and
temperature, solar radiation, and sunshine duration. The device was
developed to reduce vulnerability of the agriculture specifically resource-
poor upland farmers and communities to the impacts of climate change and
related natural disasters through timely and accurate data monitoring. The
station is equipped with the following components:

1. Mercurial Barometer
2. Microbarograph
3. Tipping Bucket
4. Wind Indicator
5. Aneroid Barometer
6. Lightning Arrester
7. Solar Panel
8. Tipping Bucket Rain Gage (Recording Rainfall and Non-Recording
Rainfall)
9. Automated Rain Gage
10. Relative Humidity Recorder with Thermograph
11. Campbell Stokes Sunshine Recorder
12. Temperature Sensor

RAIN GAGE
In observation and supported by my research, the location of the Agro-Met
Station should be at least in open space so that the actual data like rainfall
and wind will not be disturbed. There should not be other animals roaming
around the enclosed space or where the equipment’s are located, it can
make the reading inaccurately. The means of reading the data on the
Tipping Bucket which is called the Rain Chart is likely complicated if you do
it on the first time, every line corresponds to ten minutes’ time. When the
record gives a horizontal data, then it indicates that it is raining; and when
it goes vertical, the rain had already stopped. On the Campbell Stokes
Sunshine Recorder, there are three cards used, basically it has different
used corresponds to the season. During the visit, they used the Equinoctial
Card or Straight Card because we are on equal days and equal nights. And if
the the season were shorter days and longer nights, they will use the winter
cards. Lastly, the summer cards, this will be used when longer days and
shorter nights. The Tipping Bucket Rain Gage for Non Recording Rainfall is
the manual way of taking the data and the simplest of all the instruments. I
verified that the data’s I’ve heard from the newscaster when they talk on
rain intensity, the given value in millimeter indicates the depth of water that
will accumulate on ground surface in a span of time. Overall, the visit on
Agrometeorological Research in USeP Tagum is very educational and
abundant in knowledge. Seeing all the device is exceptional and satisfying
for me in my study on the subject Water Resources, also with the help of the
caretaker Ms. Mizpah Amba and Dr. Irvin Generalao. I come to realize that
there is still a lot to learn in the field of Water Resources especially for me in
relation to my profession as Civil Engineer.
