Identify whether the following arguments use deductive or inductive

reasoning.

1. Any student who has been absent for more than three classes can be barred
from taking the examination. Ann has been absent for four classes. She will
be barred from taking the examination.
Answer: deductive reasoning.

2. The party is held in a hotel quite a long drive from his house. He does not
have a date to accompany him there. The masquerade theme set by the
organisers made him uncomfortable because he has no idea what he wanted
to Dress up as. He will probably decide not to go to the party.
Answer: inductive reasoning.

3. It has been raining for three days now. The rain is extraordinarily heavy this
year. The cutting of trees on the hill did not help matters, as there are signs of
soil movements along the slopes. A landslide can be expected any time soon.
Answer: deductive reasoning.

4. Car production depends mainly on the costs of materials and labour. The
manufacturers have increased costs of imported materials because of the fall
in the local currency. In addition, the rise in minimum wage in 2016 that was
imposed by the government also resulted in increased labour costs. The price
of cars will probably increase.
Answer: inductive reasoning.

5. Sugar can have positive effects on your life. It is high in calorie content that
will give you energy. It contains glycolic acid which helps to eliminate
blemishes and restore the balance in the skin’s oils. A moderate intake of
sugar does not pose any health risks. Therefore, sugar remains an important
food source.
