REHEARSAL PACKET

AND
SCHEDULE
HOW TO READ YOUR SCHEDULE:
Excused absences for that rehearsal.

If your name is not listed but you gave an absence, either:

You aren’t called, so your absence is irrelevant or
It’s a recurring absence that is not approved that week (more notes on this below).

If your name is listed here but also next to a rehearsal call, we know you will not
be there that day.

What we are doing.

What time we are doing it.
Where it is located (more
on that below). Who is called (be sure and double
check your breakdown, too).

Number of actors called (more on

that below.) YELLOW means
something is worthy of
special attention.

As this rehearsal process is a little different than normal and is subject to change as we continue to watch guidelines and restrictions, here are some clarifications:
1) IN STUDIO vs ZOOM IN NOVEMBER/DECEMBER
a. All rehearsals except for November 17th are currently scheduled so they can be held at the studio, if possible. With full GCPA COVID policies and procedures, of course.
b. If needed or dictated by the county, we will move rehearsals to ZOOM.
c. Actors can request to attend in-person rehearsals via ZOOM, when needed.
2) CAPACITIES
a. You will notice we’ve listed the number of actors called for each rehearsal to help us keep track of how many actors will be at rehearsal, if all attend in person. If we are over the capacity for the scheduled rehearsal space, we have
holding rooms secured so we can easily work with smaller groups on the same scene while keeping our capacities in check. Alternatively, some actors may be asked to attend via ZOOM based on what they are doing in that
rehearsal. That information will be sent out closer to each rehearsal.
b. For our last rehearsal in December and into January, we have times held for run throughs. These are subject to change/more detailed scheduling once we get closer, however, we will have the entire GCPA space at these times to
spread out and rotate. And by January (at the latest assuming no more delays), it should be our entire NEW studio space!
3) CONFLICTS
a. I was able to work around most conflicts, including lots of the recurring ones. The biggest issue was Thursdays from 5 – 7 pm. While GCPA classes are in session, this is the only time frame the Blue Room (our largest room) is
open, so we need to prioritize the larger scenes. If you have a recurring conflict in this time frame and listed flexibility, I used that more liberally than in other cases. Please let me know any concerns and we will work it out.
b. HELD Rehearsals mean that we have not set the schedule, as we do not know what will need the most work. During these rehearsals I have left the recurring conflicts listed but will update closer to time. I anticipate being able to
work around most of them.
4) IN STUDIO vs ZOOM IN JANUARY
a. As we move closer to production/filming, we will need to run scenes with actors in the same space. Of course, if guidelines and restrictions change, this schedule will be updated to follow those changes.
5) UNDERSTUDIES
a. We will talk about understudies at the parent meeting, but understudies are always welcome at rehearsal. Due to capacities, understudies should reach out to stage management for rehearsals you plan to attend. They will let you
know if you can attend in person or will need to attend via ZOOM.
6) BREAKDOWN
a. This packet contains the scene breakdown listing what scenes each actor is in and what role they are playing. While I’ve quadruple checked this schedule, there may still be typos. Do not hesitate to reach out with any discrepancies.
7) FINAL THOUGHTS
a. We pride ourselves on a detailed and well-kept schedule. That said, with the current situation we plan to be flexible with you and appreciate your flexibility with us as we adjust to continue with production in a safe manner. We
can’t wait to tell this story!

Memorization Tactic

Actors are required to memorize lines PRIOR to blocking rehearsal. While you do not have to be 100% perfect, GCPA prefers
you be extremely familiar with your text and not stuck in your book. Here is GCPA’s suggestion for memorization:

Buy a spiral bound note card book (pictured below):

Write your CUE line (the line before) on the front and YOUR line on the back.

FAQs:

Why? This gives you an instant scene partner. You read the cue line with no way to cheat on your next line.

Why spiral bound? Because it stays in chronological order. No spilled cards.

Can I type it? No. Handwriting encourages memorization.

Will you check if I’ve done this? Maybe. And Paul Pagano will be super impressed by those who have followed through.

Do I have to? No. But you DO have to be memorized. If you do not have a successful tactic for memorization, you should
follow this process.
