The “kundiman”dance refers to a beautiful girl who is very much admired for her
beauty and grace of movements. A young man who is very much in love with her and
he dances as he sings to her. This dance has been found in some towns in the
provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and Abra.
Many of the Italian dances reflect the influence of the invaders from Asia, Northern
Europe and Africa. The forms and patterns of the dances are simple and
sometimes accomplised by castanets and tambourines. Tarantella originated in the
southern part of Italy. The dancers are free and easy with precise movements. The
body is loosely free, often swaying from side to side. The arms are held high in the
air with the head erect. Jumping and hopping , skipping and leg swinging are the
common step found in tarantella dances.
