Pursuant to Section 7 of Presidential Decree no. 491 (Nutrition Act of the
Philippines) dated June 26, 1974, declaring the month of July as Nutrition Month,
which aims to create awareness of the importance of good nutrition.
Batal Elementary School started the celebration by joining the National Simultaneous
Launching of the 2023 Nutrition Month Celebration on July 03, 2023. There was a free feeding of
different nutritious but affordable foods to the learners of the school sponsored by City Councilor
Olan Chan, Barangay Health Workers headed by Ma’am Mary Grace Waswasen, the Barangay Health
Center Nurse, the teachers, and parents. The learners not only enjoyed the delicious food but they also
saved their money for their snack of that day.
On the second and third day of the celebration, pupils showcased their talents in arts through
coloring vegetables and fruits drawing, poster making and slogan writing activities. Advisers chose
two the best out in their class to be their entry in the different contested activities.
Class advisers inculcate awareness and importance of eating healthy and affordable foods into
their pupils’ minds through watching video clips about the topic. After watching the videos, pupils
realized their unhealthy habits on their diets and the bad impact of this practice in their health
especially to their future. They had then promised to their selves that from that day on they will
choose healthy and nutritious but affordable foods.
It was a very colorful morning at Batal Elementary School on July 06,2023. It was on this day
that one of the highlights of the celebration was done, the parade of vegetable and fruit costumes.
Ma’am Lolita V. Lorenzo, the school head, was delighted by the scene made by the different colors of
the children.
A cooking contest also highlighted the festivity of the celebration. Pupils prepared native
delicacies, vegetable salads and main dishes, all with affordable ingredients. Teachers judged the
output of the pupils according to palatability, nutritive value, presentation and affordability.
To officially closed the celebration, a culminating activity was conducted. Winners of the
different activities were awarded with certificate of recognition and ribbons. Messages were given by
the president of SPTA, Mr. Erwin A. Acuña and Dr. Lolita V. Lorenzo, the brilliant and hardworking
school principal.
Generally, the whole nutrition month was successfully celebrated.
