Sharing is Caring

With this long and agonizing pandemic, simultaneous catastrophes and individual
problems, I always believe that humanity is still inclined to the hearts of each individual.

Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their
world anew. This one is no different. It is a portal, a gateway between one world and the next.
Different hatred arises in the hearts of individuals, racism gradually increases, prejudice has
become rampant and crimes are continuously rising. In addition, some people have imaginations
sparked only by what they can see; I blame this blinkered empiricism for the parks overwhelmed
with people, the bars, until a few nights ago, thickly thronged. My imagination is the opposite. I
fear everything invisible to me. From the enclosure of my house, I am afraid of the suffering that
isn’t present before me. Moreover, there are a lot of things that can happen during this pandemic
such as losing a job, people running out of money and food, the deaths of health-care workers are
still growing while performing their duties. Front-liners are sacrificing their lives just to protect
us to have a sustainable and safety environment for living.

Amidst the pandemic, all precautionary measures are done through technologies and
internet platforms, in effect, attending social gathering is gradually disappearing. On the
contrary, it can also be an advantage for youth, we can educate people to be aware of this Covid-
19 pandemic. Social media is computer-based technology that facilitates the sharing of ideas,
thoughts, and information through the building of virtual networks and communities.
Furthermore, it originated as a way to interact with friends and family but was later adopted by
businesses which wanted to take advantage of a popular new communication method to reach out
to customers.

I’m not a type of person who is active and engaging simultaneously when it comes to
social media issues so I ask my teachers, friends and family for guidance. I ask my Junior High
School teacher on how I should start doing things since I am just beginning.

“First, you need to be familiarized with the different social media platforms like twitter,
instagram and most importantly facebook since it is the largest social networking site in the
country,” said Ms. Reyes.
“Second, be aware and updated with all of the issues our country is facing presently most
especially about Covid-19 since you want to post advocacies to other social media users” she
added.

While doing researches on this matter, it suddenly comes to my mind on how I can relate
these posts to netizens at the same time making an unbiased information. So, I called my friend
Cyrin to seek an answer and she said that I should be responsible and be careful in all the actions
I intend to do like posting, commenting or sharing something on the internet.

After being active on different networking sites, I was able to apply those things in my
post. I've made a collection or playlist that tackles some events that Filipinos experienced during
pandemic. I post an article about the generosity of Chinese residents living in the Philippines
who extended help by giving face masks to the people living in Metro Manila. Despite this
humanitarian move, they were still bashed in social media and received different forms of
ostracisms.

Another example is, when I shared an article I had read recently about how the present
administration spend the 400 million funds of our government in completing the beautification of
Manila Bay using dolomite sand. However, this project was a failure and the sands where swept
away by the typhoons. Netizens expressed their opinions with regard to government's lack of
priorities. For them, the government should have used the fund for online classes instead of
embarking on the mentioned project, whereas a lot of Filipinos are having a hard time adjusting
to this new normal

I strive hard to inform people despite the fact that I’m just an ordinary student who stays at
home and not being able to physically interact with them. By giving them factual information, I
am happy that I can help them in my own little way. I know that some might think that this thing
is dangerous and unreliable, but we can put away all those thinking because I know to myself
that what I am writing and posting is factual and trustworthy. I am very much delighted that I
keep my friends updated about the issues I’m posting. I think this move is considered to be a
good deed during a pandemic.
I learned that humans can offer something no matter who you are, where you came
from, and your status in life. Being smart is better than a person whose mouth is full of bluff.
Don’t think about what we can take and how society will help us, think about what we can give
to our society to improve one’s existence.
