Essay. Answer the questions as briefly as possible.

1. What is culture?

Culture is the shared characteristics of the entire group, which has been amassed
throughout its history

2. How does culture shape moral behavior?

Culture influence our moral identity and the way we behave. Our behavior is guided by a
set of moral principles called ethics which are shaped by our culture, the people around us
and our religion.

3. Why are there differences in culture?

There are differences in culture because of the different environment we were brought up,
values, social norms and various experiences which shaped our society and how certain
groups of people are living.

4. Do you think there are superior and inferior cultures?

No, all cultures might seem similar but they are different from each other; you can only
compare one thing from other if they are alike or the same. You can’t judge a culture based
on your cultural ideas because culture differ and all are equal.

5. Is there such a thing as “good culture” and “bad culture”?

I wouldn’t say that there is a good or bad culture since judging a culture based on your
own ideas of how a culture should be is wrong and biased. But I do think that there are
some practices like female genital mutilation/cutting which is a violation of the human
rights, which can cause a wide range of health problems and does not benefit the girls or
women.
