BARANGAY LENIENZA
The name of this barangay derived from the word “LENIENT” lenient means
merciful or maloloy-on in Cebuano. This is because the people of this would settle any
trouble in an amicable way. The barangay came from the famous Subano leader who
once became a tenyente del barrio on his own barangay and now Cebuano dominated
this place. Only few came from different tribes. Many tenyente del barrio wherein
couldn’t find the records but pioneer residents told that they serve the barangay.
This barangay was established in 1938. The total land area of this barangay is
278.5190 hectares characterized by rolling physical feature with little plain. It is 8
kilometres away from the city proper in the direction northeast. Farm product of the
community includes: rice, corn, copra, bananas, and root crops, fruits of different kinds
and vegetables of varied sort. Small – scale poultry and piggery are also raised by
many families.
The barangay has a public Elementary School. There are churches existing until
today.
Part of the Filipino culture specially Lenienza people observed the tradition of
commemorating the barangay annual fiesta to honour patron Sr. Sto. NiNo and Araw ng
Barangay. The fiesta celebration falls every 11 – 12 th of January of each year. Part of
the celebration is the coronation night, basketball tournament and parlour games. In the
church, the religious leaders hold novena when barangay fiesta is approaching. It is
also a tradition that the priest will hold a baptism and wedding ceremony. It is normal
that every fiesta, residents prepares foods even if it is small just to commemorate the
fiesta and to entertain visitors.
The Celebration of WAR NG LENIENZA falls every January 13 th of the year.
Many activities created to make the affair successful.
Barangay Lenienza is located at the North District, on the East by the Barangay
Tiguma where in Alta Tierra and Sunrise Village is located and West by the Barangay
Bulatoc.
The number of precincts in Barangay Lenienza is 7 and the legal basis of
creation was on year 1945. The barangays category is Urban – upland and Agricultural.
