How Good is The Good Place

The television show The Good Place is a fantasy comedy show created by Michael

Schur for NBC but it can be streamed on Netfilx,Hulu and, other steaming sites. The show

originally started on September 19, 2016 with the final episode date planning to show on

January 30, 2020 the series has a total of four seasons and 53 episodes. This show focuses

mainly on Eleanor Shellstrop who has recently died and is woken up in "the Good Place" which

is a utopia that was created by Michael who is an architect of the afterlife they create towns for

the people to live in. Eleanor while in "the Good Place" she meets four humans who she

decides to befriend their names are Chidi, Jason and, Tahani they all lived vary different lives

while they were alive. This show is made for the people who want to understand the basics of

moral philosophy to see how it can be used on a daily basis but also want to be

entertained. The Good Place is a great television show that shows people how it is difficult to be

a good person in today’s society and teaches you life lessons on how to be a better person.

    The four humans that Eleanor has befriended come from very different pasts Chidi is a moral

philosophy professor at St Johns College University of Sydney who struggles with

the decision making which ultimately ends up killing him. Jason is a man from Jacksonville

Florida who was a low life criminal that ends up dying in a debauched robbery of restaurant.

The last main human Tahani is a rich woman who is famous for her donations to multiple

foundations but she always ends up living in her sisters shadow and never gets credit for her

actions so she always tries to gain the approval of her parents her constant need for approval

and jealousy of her sister ends up being her down fall when she tries to take down a stature of

her sister and ends up crushing her. Eleanor also ends up befriending the robot of "the Good

Place" who is named Janet this robot is the most advanced robot of all time she is able to create

anything at will in order to please the residents of "the Good Place".

    The Good Place is a show that tries to illustrate to you that trying to be a good person is

difficult in today’s society that we know how many things can have a negative impact for many

other people or the environment but yet we still choose to make these decisions without over

thinking them unlike Chidi who is representing what it would be like if we spent our lives

thinking about the slight negative impact of things like when he tries to tell himself that he is

bad because he knew he was using almond milk even though it has a negative impact. In this

show it also shows us how it is difficult to truly make a decision to do good without it being for

selfish reasons this is demonstrated in Tahani she ends up doing multiple great things and helps

a lot of people with the money that she donates and raises for charities but she does it for

selfish reasons making it no longer a good deed. Jason is a representation of your childish

innocence’s he acts immature and refuses to grow up this shows how we as a society need

people to grow up.

    This show brings up many moral and ethical questions that tries to teach you how you can

deal with different situations. They try to approach this with some comedy like in the episode

"The Trolley Problem" where they make a realistic situation of where you are on a track that

will either kill one person or multiple it shows us that there is deeper thinking that what

actually goes into those types of situations. One way this show does struggle however is that is

can use some childish humor that does not fit the more mature tones of the show. However,

these rarely happen in the show so it is not a big nuisance the show would rather show you

how opposites attract in most situations that bad people will actually try and look for ways to

become a better person. This show is a great show to watch if you want to learn through a form

a comedy it deals with more nuanced version of moral philosophy.

    The Good Place is the show for you to watch if you want to understand moral and ethical

philosophy while also wanting to be entertained. At first the show might seem a little boring but

as long as you give it a chance you will end up loving it and will end up binging the show. This

show will demonstrate how things in life can be confusing and seem very difficult to make the

right decisions and be a good person but this show will demonstrate how we don't need to

overly obsess over everything because in the end as long as we try to make ourselves and

others better we will end up being just fine.

Reflection: When I started my rough draft I waited last minute to do it and I saw that my rough

draft was really bad so I decided that I needed to put more effort in it so I decided to put more

effort into it and I realized that I didn't put a thesis statement in my rough draft and I didn't

address the audience so I realized that I needed to put more effort in and not wait last minute

to do it because when I do that I put out bad writing.
