C’est combien?

Teaching notes

This resource consists of a set of three role play sheets designed to enable
students to ask for prices of a range of food items and understand the
answers.

p.2 C’est combien?

You could use this sheet for a whole class drill to prepare students for the pair
work role plays.
 Make enough copies for all students to see the worksheet.
 Pick a student at random and ask them to choose a number between 1
and 16.
 The student should look at the grid, find the product for that number and
use the question prompt box to ask the class how much the item is in
French.
 Any student can then give the correct price, using the phrases at the
bottom of the page to help them, before choosing another student to ask
the next question.
 The products can be crossed off one by one as they are mentioned.

p.3 En paires: c’est combien?

An information gap activity for pair work. Copy p.3 and cut in half, giving
student A the top half and student B the bottom half. Students take turns to
ask their partner the prices which they are missing in order to write them in
below each food item.

p.4 À l’épicerie
Students use the prompts given to practise their own role plays. These could
then be written down, recorded, performed or used to create an animated
version of the dialogue using an app such as Puppet Pals.
