ELA WHOLE GROUP

 You asked some really good questions to help students get the story a little more.
 Cool intro of the vocab word conductor and connection to the Polar Express!

ELA SMALL GROUP

 You’re having the students practice reading the short u words
 You’re modeling for the students before having them finger stretch the word.
 You did a great job of correcting the way Reagan wrote the letter p.
 You encouraged students to sing out.
 You wrote out the words that students found in the decodable readers.
 You modeled hearing the last sound in the word.
 You’re connecting each activity by saying, “We’re going to practice…” and “Let’s keep
practicing…”
 You let the students stretch out the words before letting them write.
 You had the students think about short vowel words in the story AND had them
remember the story as well.

SOCIAL STUDIES
 Nice pretending! Really get into it!
 You facilitated a good conversation about what they noticed in the hallway, getting their
minds ready to talk about past and present and the difference!
 You made a GREAT teacher choice to have them keep their pictures at their desk.

MATH SMALL GROUP

 Love how you changed the problem to be about Daisy.
 You had students talk about different ways that they solved the problem.

 When you ask students about the genre, make sure it’s not up there already! :)
 I know these stories are terribly boring, but try to get more excited about the story--that
will help the kids get more excited about the story!

ELA SMALL GROUP

 You probably don’t have to do as many examples for reading words, modeling how to
sing out. You probably only need to model once, have kids do a “we do” word or two with
you before reading the blending lines.
 Make sure you elaborate when you introduce the story. Don’t just tell them what they’re
looking for, give them the gist of the book also!
 You can differentiate the words you model and practice reading with the students for the
less support group by picking words from the challenge list.

SOCIAL STUDIES
 If people are talking about their pictures and sharing, make them take a QUIET minute to
look at it. And don’t talk over them and don’t let them talk over you!
MATH WHOLE GROUP
 Today would have been a good day to start with a problem like
o Mrs. Allender has 13 donuts. Some of the donuts are chocolate, some are
vanilla, some are apple. How many could there be of each?
o OR There are ___ green frogs, ___ blue frogs, and ___ red frogs. How many
frogs are there altogether?

MATH SMALL GROUP

 Don’t forget the missing addend strategies! Daisy has ___ pink toys, ___ purple toys,
and ___ blue toys. How many toys does she have?
 After you model, you do not have to ask them what they notice. I would only do that if
there’s a game.
 You could differentiate this lesson by having students write their own word problems with
3 addends.
 Something you can do is have them bring 3 crayons to group and have them use those
to help them draw the pictures.
