• There’s usually some kind of artificial light, which you can use to take
unique photographs.
• It doesn’t demand a massive budget.
• it’s open to photographers of all kinds.
• There are many structural parts to a home that create frames in a shot.
• There are usually WINDOWS & DOORS which can give an amazing source of
soft light.

KEY POINTS

• Get close to the window


– Larger the light source the softer the light (hence sun is
hard light)
• lighting styles all still apply, narrow light, Rembrandt,
butterfly etc.
• Use inner curtains or blinds as a diffuser
• Find shaded areas in porchways, doorframes etc. as this
will create soft light portraits
• Reflectors... They're cheap if you have a budget or add it
to your Christmas list!
SHOOTING FROM
HOME
• Basically use a window as a side light see the
image below.
• Ideally the light quality wants to be soft and diffuse
coming through (not strong hard sunlight).
• It's up to you whether you want to use material
or a plain wall as a background.
• It's also up to you as to whether you use a
reflector on the non window side of the subject
to lighten the shadows.
