Rule: Maintain a Positive Learning Environment
within the classroom! Students will not interfere with
teaching or with other students. Students will not spend
time sleeping, talking during lessons, using their
phones, or doing work for other classes during
activities and lessons. Students will not interrupt
classes with things unrelated to the lesson or activity.
Rationale: Students need to maintain a positive
learning environment where all students are able to
learn. Students should not have to be interrupted or
distracted during class by their peers.
Rule: Pay attention, Participate and Ask Questions
during Class. Engage in what is going on in the
classroom during lessons and activities. Ask questions
when you need clarification, chances are someone else
is wondering the same thing! If you do not feel
comfortable asking during class, ask me after!
Participate during classroom discussions and share
stories that relate to class material. Do not be afraid to
share, it always adds to the lesson and makes it more
fun and engaging!
Rationale: Students need to be proactive in their
learning by asking questions when they are confused.
There needs to be a consistent communication between
student and the teacher. Participating in classroom
discussion is also important in helping students relate
to the material being taught.
Rule: Do Your Best Work and Turn it in on Time.
Remember that the work you turn in is a reflection of
your effort and knowledge.
Rationale: Being respectful of others time is an
important skill to have. It is also important to turn in
your work on time so that you are prepared to the
next assignment and lesson. Doing your best work
and sharing what you are learning is also important in
having self-pride and confidence.
Warning 1: Student will be verbally reminded during
class if they are interfering with the positive learning
environment.
Warning 2: Student will be asked to stop the
interfering behavior. Student will also be told that I
will be calling home to discuss the behavior. Parent
will be contacted.
Warning 3: Student and parent will need to come in
for a meeting to discuss what should be done to stop
the interference within the classroom.
Warning 4: Detention and/or referral.
If students are not participating in class discussion and
asking questions, I will pull them aside and ask them a
few questions.
I will ask the student:
I noticed you do not participate in classroom
discussions. Is there a reason why you are not
participating?
From this answer, I can gauge the student’s level of
understanding in the classroom. I can encourage them
to begin participating in classroom discussion. I can
also let the student know ahead of time what the class
discussion will be on so that they can feel better
prepared to speak up in class for the first time.
Students will always be given a rubric and an example
for each assignment and project.
When students do not put forth their best effort:
Warning 1: Student will be pulled aside to discuss the
work that had been turned in. Student will be reminded
of the rubric and example.
Warning 2: If student continues to submit work that is
sloppy or unfinished, parent will be contacted so that I
can better understand what is going on.
Warning 3: Student and parent will be called into a
meeting to discuss what needs to be done to change the
issue.
When student is not turning work in on time:
Warning 1: Student will receive a 10% late reduction
each day the assignment is late. Student will be

Rule: Do Not Line up at the Door Before Dismissal!
Please remain in your seat until I ask everyone to line
up. Do not start packing up while I am still talking. I
am aware of the time and I will always make sure you
have enough time to pack up and get out of class on
time. This is a pet peeve of mine and gives me anxiety
when students pack up early and line up at the door.
Yes, I even had this pet peeve as a high school student!
Rationale: It is respectful to wait until the teacher tells
you to begin packing up and lining up at the door.
Rule: Arrive to Class on Time and Ready to Learn!
Please arrive to class on time every day. Please be in
class both physically and mentally.
Rationale: It is respectful to come to class on time and
ready to learn! Arriving late interrupts the learning
process.
reminded daily and pulled aside to discuss why and
how they will turn in the assignment/project.
Warning 2: If student continues to submit late work,
parent will be contacted. Plan and strategy will be
discussed. Meeting may happen with student and
parent.
Warning 1: I will verbally tell you to stop packing up
or to get back to your seat.
Warning 2: I will call home on the 2nd or 3rd time that
you are packing up early and lining up at the door. I
will also remind student that I am aware of the time
and I will never make you late for a class.
Warning 3: Possible detention.
I will be less harsh during first period. I likely do not
know the full extent to what is going on in my students
lives before school. Their parent/guardian may have a
lot to do and may have a hard time getting all of their
children to school on time. Students may have to walk
to school or get breakfast at school in the mornings. 5
minutes after the late bell rings in the mornings should
be enough time. I will make sure to talk with these
students so that I can try and help in anyway I can.
For all other class times:
Warning 1: Students will be marked late on the
attendance list online. I will verbally tell students when
I do this.
Warning 2: Students will be pulled aside so that I can
get an understanding as to why they are late. We can
work through ways to prevent their tardiness.
Warning 3: Students parent/guardian will be
contacted.
Warning 4: Possible detention.
