The effects of technology in learning

lessons

Introduction:
Technology takes many forms in today’s world. Technology
(“science of craft”, from Greek techne, “art, skill, cunning of
hand”, -logia) is the sum of techniques, skills, methods, and
processes used in the production of goods or services or in the
accomplishment of objectives, such as scientific investigation.
The simplest form of technology is the development and use of
basic tools. Technology can be a powerful tool for transforming
learning. It can help affirm and advance relationships between
educators and students, Another reason why technology ko
positively impacts the classroom is because it motivates
students to learn, but sometimes technology is one of the
reason why students neglect their studies and just use their
phones to entertain themselves and not worrying about their
studies.
Many students are more stimulated and eager to learn when
they can interact with the hands-on learning tools that
educational technology provides. According to research done
by PBS Learning Media, 74% of teachers surveyed felt that
using classroom technology motivates students to learn. In
addition, as stated by a fifth grade teacher in an article by the
US Department of Education, “Technology is the ultimate carrot
for students. It’s something they want to master. Learning to
use it enhances their self-esteem and makes them excited
about coming to school.”
With technology in the classroom, students gain greater control
of their education and they can learn at their own pace. For
example, lessons or activities on tablets or laptops give
students the opportunity to read directions, process
information, and complete their work at their own pace. This
also gives the teacher time, allowing them to give students
extra assistance and attention when it is needed. It is an added
bonus that research shows that using technology in the
classroom motivates children to learn.

Background of the study:

The field of education is one of the important fields that need a
special attention because education has a vital role to develop
the human resource that plays a role in the formation of
students to be assets of the nations expected to be a
productive human. To be a productive human we need an
International language. Language is a means of communication.
It means that people normally use language to exchange their
ideas, news, and information. They may also use it to express
their attitudes and feelings towards others. As we know that
English is the international language. So English is very
important for people in global era, most of people in this world
use English language.
Teaching language, especially teaching English is not easy job
for many people. English teachers find a lot of problem.
Teacher should understand the characteristics of the students.
It is considered that the students as learners have different
characteristics, especially in teaching learning process. One of
the challenges in teaching foreign language is motivating the
students to speak in English. Confident students are always
participating, but the students who are less confident are
unenthusiastic.

Literature:
According to Spears (2012) she cites Donovan, Hartley &
Strudler (2007) and describes the first technology program that
was used in a school setting. Spears (2012) states, “The first
provider of computer access for teachers and students was
Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow (ACOT). The goal of ACOT was
to promote change in the context of education”(p. 1). Spears
continues in her study and describes Microsoft’s initiative
through the Anytime Anywhere Learning (AAL) program. Spears
(p. 1) cites the work of Donovan et al. (2007), “An increase in
enthusiasm for teaching and learning with technology, an
improvement in student writing skills, an increase of authentic
and purposeful use of technology…are some of the benefits of
technology integration programs like the AAL program.”
