Una dintre cele mai mari regine din Istoria britanică a fost regina Elisabeta (1558–1603) care a condus Anglia pentru mai mult de patruzeci de ani. În
timpul asta când au fost multe lupte între ele Marinari englezi și spanioli.

Cel mai faimos englez care a luptat împotriva Spaniei era Francis Drake.
Francis Drake era fiul unui preot. A plecat la mare la vârsta de doisprezece ani, învățându-și meseria din stăpân al unei nave vechi care făcea comerț
între Tamisa și porturile dincoasta de sud. Mai târziu a devenit un ofițer pe una dintre navele engleze .
În 1577 cu nava sa Golden Hind Drake a plecat într-o călătorie care l-a dus în jurul lumii. Scopul lui a fost să exploreze America de Sud. El, de
asemenea credeam că o astfel de călătorie va face este posibil ca el să cunoască spaniola vase de comori. Pe drumul de întoarcere Drake și echipajul
său au luat o mare parte a tezaurului spaniol. The Hind Hind s-a întors în Anglia în 1580. Philip din Spania se înfuriasse déjà plângeri cu privire la
acțiunile lui Drake împotriva tezaurelor sale sud-americane. Regina Angliei a ignorant le complet. În loc să pedepsească Drake, l-a făcut cavaler pentru
