Lesson: Getting to know you and R&J Intro

Lesson ● Students will be given a “human bingo” sheet. Each square

Overview contains a prompt and students will be asked to find a fellow
student to meet that prompt and write their name within the box. I
will then start to say students name at random (almost like taking
attendance) and students will mark their bingo sheet off and
attempt to make a bingo
● Introduce Romeo and Juliet with a discussion that is much like
popcorn. Students will be asked to sit on top of their desk and
look at the powerpoints on the boards. Much like popcorn,
students will answer the question, and toss the ball to another
student so that they may ask the question.
● If time allows, we will introduce the journal prompt “Do you
believe in love at first sight?” Students must write 8-10 sentences
and answer the question completely. Students will then be asked
to share their answers.

Lesson Goal Students will be able to make connections with other students and their
teacher.

Students will be able to have a discussion based on prior knowledge to

introduce Romeo and Juliet

Learning Goal Students will be able to recall events within their life and based their
answer for discussion on prior knowledge/understand to back up their
stance.

Standards Met Writing Standard for Literature 9-10:2a

Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex
ideas, concepts, and information clearly and accurately through the
effective selection, organization, and analysis of content. a. Introduce a
topic; organize complex ideas, concepts, and information to make
important connections and distinctions; include formatting (e.g.,
headings), graphics (e.g., figures, tables), and multimedia when useful to
aiding comprehension.

HLTP - Next, I will explain that students will receive a worksheet with several
GLC/EMC prompts on it. Students will be given 2 minutes (timed) to go around to
everyone, mingle, and fill in each prompt accordingly with another
students name. Students will then sit down with their completed sheet
and will listen as I shout names in a random order. Students must keep
track of their bingo sheet and call bingo once they have successfully
gotten 5 in a row.

Next, Students will be given explicit instructions on how to have a

popcorn discussion. Students are to sit on their desk and quietly listen to
each student while they explain their answer to the question on the
board. Students may not interrupt another student while they are talking,
and will be asked to sit out of the discussion if they do it repeatedly. One
student will be given the ball to start and will answer the question. At the
end of their turn, the student will toss the ball to another student who
will then answer the question. This will go across the entire room until
everyone answers. We will then move on to the next question until we
finish all six questions.
