Convoy of Hope Evaluation

When evaluating my convoy of hope unit in terms of my secondary sources, I believe that I
had enough information. The point at which I feel I reached this stage was after I read the
diary. This is because it added the first sense of humanness to the situation which I could
empathise with. Something I also found quite useful was the secondary research I did by
myself. In gathering this I felt that my understanding of the greater history of the countries
involved grew, meaning I could further understand all sides that were involved in the
conflict. I also made sure that I Harvard referenced all of the documents Nicky gave us, as
well as the research I did by myself.

When evaluating my unit in terms of primary sources I felt, even though we had fewer
primary than secondary sources they were just as useful. For example, the interview with
Nicky provided a greater insight into the mind of somebody on the convoy. This combined
with the character description I created really helped in creating my treatment. This was
because it helped me to imagine what a fictional character would do in these situations,
after hearing what a real person actually did in them.

When examining secondary research, I had to take into account their validity and reliability.
Doing this I commented on each of the two in the documents I read. This was to ensure that
the finished product had historically correct details. I do believe however, that I could have
further evaluated the validity and reliability of my own secondary research.

I believe that I could have used the available resources a bit more. This is partly a result of
me choosing to set the area of script I wrote on the border. This meant that some of the
details that I could have included, had I set it once they had entered the country were
missing.

What I created in terms of a storyline could have been more original in my opinion. While
the story is not plagiarized, the general idea consisted of characters I created going through
that Nicky had went through. Although this meant for some interesting scenarios to write
about, I could have created some on my own using the research I myself had carried out.

I felt the diary was the most useful document we had available to use, as it was a person’s
actual experiences. These types of experiences cannot be simply made up and so by having
Nicky provide her diary I could get a real sense of what a human does when placed in a
scenario like this.
The main area of information I was lacking in was my periodical information. Being set in
1996, the show would have had to strictly feature technology available around and before
those times, something I did not really look into. I also did not get a thorough grasp of how
the world reacted to this situation, besides Wiltshire as seen from the newspaper articles,
which meant I had to limit my characters to people from the affected area and Wiltshire.
