Understanding Hyperbolas: Key Concepts

- A hyperbola is a conic section where the difference between the distances from two fixed points (foci) is a constant. - The standard equation of a hyperbola is (x/a)^2 - (y/b)^2 = 1, where the center is at the origin, the vertices are at (±a,0), and the foci are at (±ae,0). - The document provides exercises to find characteristics of hyperbolas from their equations or properties, such as the coordinates of vertices, foci, and eccentricity.

− Hyperbola: Locus of a point in a plane such that the difference of the distances from

two fixed points is a constant.

• A conic section with eccentricity greater than 1 is a Hyperbola.
• The two fixed points are called foci.
