Q1. Why are you interested in this work?

The initiatives taken by Stichting Bangladesh Accord foundation for garments workers safety
after the Rana Plaza incident has been widely appreciated. For the growing garment industry,
the practice of safety standards on electrical fire and structural safety has become a trend.
During the past couple of years, the count for fire incident, electrical hazard, and building
collapse have been reduced dramatically.
Unfortunately, recent boiler incident at ……. ……. ……… multifabs has raised the question if there
is enough manpower to properly inspect and enforce the boiler safety standards at various
manufacturing industries. Even after all those good works done by accord, the safety of
garment workers seemed to be vulnerable unless the boiler safety is ensured.
Accidents involving exploding boilers have killed people, damaged plant and affected
production. These accidents resulted from problems such as inadequately designed boilers,
wrongly sited or wrongly installed boilers as well as boilers that were not correctly operated or
maintained. Although regular boiler inspection is a law, due to limited expertise and manpower
the safety measures are only documented rather than practiced truly in most of the garment
industries. The initiative of boiler safety inspection at the garment industry would make the
whole working environment at garments even better and would reduce hazards substantially.
Being a part of the team would give me the satisfaction of completely being able to do what
Accord truly wanted to do for the garments workers of Bangladesh.
Q2. What background and qualification do you have to work on boiler safety?
My background as an electrical (operation/maintenance) engineer at reputed process
industries (Jamuna cycle factory and Pran rfl) has given me the exposure to the knowledge of
maintenance and safety of large boilers. I am aware of the boiler acts, and safety and measures
that should be taken during the operation and maintenance of different types of boilers (water
tube boiler, fire tube boiler, and electrical boilers). Working for those process industries also
enabled me to understand the working principles of the various component in the boiler system
to and the importance of various operational parameters to achieve safe and efficient
operation
Q3. Why should we select you for such an assignment?
As an employee of Accord, my duty is to try my best to ensure the safety of the garments
workers. In a broader sense, this duty is not just limited to what I am doing right now (electrical
safety engineer). Rather, it is also my responsibility to serve for the worker's safety with what I
am capable of. My background in the process industry, exposure to the boiler operation and
maintenance and my true interest to work for boiler safety, makes me an ideal candidate to be
assigned with such an indispensable task. I believe, this opportunity will give me the privilege to
extend my knowledge and develop skills in boiler safety which would be beneficial both for my
career and the safety of garment workers.
