Classroom Procedures

Beginning of Class

● Students will enter the room prior to the changing of classes bell. As they enter the room, students

should turn in any assignments due on that day to the appropriate area and head to their seat.

Once at their seat, they should take out any necessary materials for class that day and begin to

work on the bell work or warm up question. Students can converse with their fellow classmates

up until the start of class, as long as they complete their bell work prior to class.

● Once the start of class bell rings, the teacher will wait approximately 1 minute before closing the

door. Once this door is closed, any student who is still outside of the classroom will be considered

late.

● The teacher will open the door, which will be locked after the bell, for any student coming in late.

Absentee or tardy slips will be handed to the teacher as the student comes into the classroom.

● Seating will be open to student choice, barring any behavioral problems. There will be two

options for seating: independent or partner seating for students who wish to work independently

and quad, group seating for students who wish to work collaboratively.

● Students will turn their attention to the teacher once the start of class bell rings. If this expectation

is not met, the teacher will verbally gain the attention of the class.

● During Public Address announcements, students will cease discussion or talking and actively

listen to the announcement. Attention will return to the teacher once the announcement is done.
Managing Classroom Movement

● Students will leave their seats when necessary (i.e. going to the bathroom, called out of class,

etc.). Students will quietly and independently leave their seat, as to not disturb instruction.

Students need not ask for any.

● Students do not need to ask for teacher permission to leave the classroom, barring special

situations which will be communicated prior to class. When leaving the room, students will need

the appropriate item:

○ Bathroom – Bathroom Pass

○ Office / Infirmary – Schoolwide Out of Class Pass (If Applicable) or written teacher hall

pass

● Students will receive additional support during instruction in a variety of ways. During

instruction, students will raise their hand and wait to be called on by the teacher. During group

work or independent work, students can ask their classmates any questions they have if they

choose to. The teacher will also be circulating the room to support students if prompted.

● Noise levels for discussion, group work, and independent work will not overwhelm the

instructing voice of the teacher at any time.

● Students who wish to collaborate during work time will be seated in the quad, group section of

the classroom. If students wish to rearrange this section to include larger groups or to better adapt

for the work at hand, they may do so prior to working on the assignment or project.

● Students will be able to ask a question or make a comment during class by raising their hand and

being called on by the teacher.

● Students will actively listen and watch presentations by other students, exactly as they would

when the teacher is giving instruction.

● Students will acquire supplies that they are missing on their own time and with their own

resources prior to class. Basic school supplies, such as writing utensils and paper, will be
provided if a student does not have any. Students will either acquire those supplies as soon as

possible for future classes or talk to the teacher for extenuating circumstances.

● Students will sharpen pencils using the electric sharpener when the teacher is not actively

teaching.

● Students will use classroom materials or special equipment with teacher permission. Specialty

equipment will be used only when prompted by the teacher for use during group work or a

project.

Paper Work

● Students will turn in work prior to their respective deadline. In-class work will be turned in at the

end of the class period. Any work assigned outside of class will be turned in when students enter

the classroom on the assignment due date. Papers will be turned in to a tray corresponding to the

student’s time block for the class.

● Students will turn in makeup or late work to a separate tray labeled “Makeup / Late Work”

corresponding to the student’s time block for the class.

● Handouts will be distributed to each working section of the classroom differently.

○ Independent / Partner Seating – Handouts will be handed to the first person in the column

by the teacher or assisting student. Each student will take one copy and pass the rest of

the copies to the student behind them.

○ Group Seating – The appropriate number of handouts will be handed to each group by the

teacher or assisting student.

● Assignments will be eligible for full points if turned in on or before the due date. Students will

have until the end of the school day to turn in the assignment with no penalties. For every day

after, the assignment will be worth 5% less, up to 7 days late, before it is marked as a zero.

Students should reach out to the teacher for the possibility of extended due dates due to

extenuating circumstances.
● Students will make up quizzes and tests missed within the week the test is administered (or the

week next if test is assigned on a school day prior to a weekend). Quizzes and tests will be taken

before or after school supervised by the teacher. Availability of these times up to teacher’s

discretion; students must talk to the teacher to schedule when to makeup a quiz or test.

● Projects and special assignments will be eligible for full points if turned in on or before the due

date. Students will have until the end of the school day to turn in the assignment with no

penalties. For every day after, the project grade will be dropped a letter grade for each day it is

late, up to 3 days late, before it is marked as a zero. Students should reach out to the teacher for

the possibility of extended due dates due to extenuating circumstances.

Syllabus / Course Outline

● Course objectives will be provided in a syllabus distributed on the first day of class. A

comprehensive list of course objectives for the year will be provided in the syllabus. Daily course

objectives will be posted in the room, specifically on the white board or a separate poster / visual,

for each day.

● Course requirements will be provided in the syllabus distributed on the first day of class.

Reminders about course requirements will be handled by the teacher as they see necessary.

● Due dates for major assignments will be provided in the syllabus distributed on the first day of

class. Reminders about these due dates will be provided by the teacher several days to several

weeks in advance at the teacher’s discretion. Any change in due dates from the syllabus will be

announced by the teacher immediately after the change is implemented. The changed due date

will be no less than 2 weeks after the initial announcement of the change.

● The weight distribution of grading and the grading scale of the class will be provided in the

syllabus distributed on the first day of class. Evaluation criteria and rubrics will be provided with

each assignment within the syllabus. Evaluation will differ depending on the type of assignment.
