Lesson 4

Activity 1

Answer the following questions in 3-5 sentences.

1. Does having more FB friends make you feel good?

Honestly, I am in 50/50 because sometimes I can feel that I am not safe on FB because of
having so many friends that I barely know. I am also grateful that I also have many FB
friends because every time I posted some of my shared posts or pictures, I got and
received so many likes and it makes me happy because of that simple thing. Moreover, I
know in myself that its not really safe to add any people to your friend’s lists because we
don’t know who we can trust among them.

2. How would you know if someone in your friends list is an online predator?

I would feel unsafe and scared of course because there is a possibility that I could be one
of their victims. If that situation would eventually happen, I will automatically block that
person in order for him/her not to be able contact me. Also, if I need to deactivate my
account, I would do that just for myself to be safe. Lastly, I would also tell my friends
who is also friends with the online predator and I will tell them to be careful as well.
3. How will you protect yourself online?

In order to protect myself online, I will not post anything that could hurt or harm others. I
will think before I click because that is really an important thing to remember. If I will
not be careful in what I do online, there might be consequences of the actions that I might
do. Then if possible, I will just only be friends to the people who are really my friends in
real life.

Activity 2

Answer this question in paragraph form. Minimum of three paragraphs. Each paragraph should
be in 5-10 sentences.

As a Media and Information literate individual, how will you help your fellow netizens to
observe netiquette?

We all know that media and information literacy enable people to show and make informed
judgments as users of media and information. Also, it helps people to become skillful creators
and producers of information and media messages in their own selves. To different these two
literacies, first, media literacy is about having the ability to know the different types of media
and the messages that are coming from the sender. Media literacy is about having a goal to find
out and analyze how the things in media are presented. On the other hand, information literacy
promotes problem solving, analyzing and thinking skills. It finds information, gathering
conclusions and evaluating opinions in order to come up with a good decision in the end. In
short, Media and Information Literacy is about having the knowledge, good attitudes, skills and
practices that are needed to access, analyze, evaluate, utilize, create, and communicate
information in a creative, legal and proper ways that respect human rights.

As of now, media and information increase every single day and it becomes abundant that it can
be found anywhere and anytime especially that we are in a new generation that is more on
technology. As a media and information literate individual, I will help me fellow netizens to
observe netiquette by telling them to use the proper language to avoid misunderstandings and
confusions with the readers or viewers. Next important thing is to have an open mind. It is
important to respect diversity and opinions that are different from yours, no matter how it affect
your own opinions or insights. We all know that we have different opinions in a certain matter
because we don’t go through what the other people are experiencing in their life so you must
respect that. We as human beings must be careful not to mislead people when replying to their
own opinions. Lastly, I will tell my fellow netizens to THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK. We must
do this every time in order not to harm and hurt other people as well as not to hurt yourself.

All in all, I just want to say that never say things online what you wouldn’t say in real life and to
another person’s face. I hope that these tips would help every person that could ever read this and
be able to expand their knowledge base and share insights to the online world properly. A good
rule to follow and remember is that if you wouldn't show it in public, then you shouldn’t share it
online. If you would have a problem with your boss, your parents, or your kids seeing it now, or
at any point in the future, don't post it online. That is how simple it is.
