CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

Introduction
Learning is regarded as one of the most important characteristics and characteristics in
The Progress of the country, although it has a positive and detailed effect on the growth of
new generations while relying on scientific foundations, new and advanced. This
development is measured by the degree of the knowledge of educators of methods, means
and theories of teaching; even with new teaching orientations on their knowledge

Modular approaches are new educational movements that move a conventional


teaching system to a learning model centered on outcomes. Modularization is based on the
concept of divided into small, distinct, non-continuous and generally short modules or units.
Students accumulate module credits that are capable of qualifying for a defined credit point
number.

Hornby says that the Module is a work unit that is virtually self-contained and an
enabling method for learning based on building up competences and knowledge in discrete
units, as stated in Yoseph and Mekuwanint (2015) and Malik (2012). A module is also a
course that can be a specialized field along with other similar courses. Any system or module
is a calculated part of a long-lasting learning experience leading to a certain qualification(s),
which involves a defined number of units and modules, and usually their series.

Theoretical Framework

The theory used by the researchers with the information that reinforced the problem
under study and the concepts used as variables by the researchers in the study are
presented in this section—the study’s theoretical framework.

This study is anchored on Bruner Constructivism theory .
Constructivism as cited by Fosnot (2005) emphasize the active role of learner
in building understanding and making sense of the information. The
constructivist teaching is learner centered where students are actively
involved in knowledge construction rather than passive learners.
A major theme in the theoretical framework of Bruner is that learning is
an active process in which learners construct new ideas or concepts based
upon their current and previous knowledge. The learner selects and
transforms information, constructs hypotheses, makes decisions, and rely on
their own understanding. Cognitive structure (schema) provides meaning and
organization to experiences and allows the individual to go beyond the
information given.

In other words, the teacher should try and encourage learner to
discover principles by themselves. With the use of the module the learner will
be able to process new ideas that they read from the module. From there
they can depend on their own understanding and develop their problem
solving skill

In other words, the teacher should try and encourage learner to discover principles by
themselves. With the use of the module the learner will be able to process new ideas that
they read from the module. From there they can depend on their own understanding and
develop their problem solving skills.

Conceptual Framework

The major concept of this study is focused on the impact of Modular Learning to the
Academic Performance of Junior High School Students of Aplaya National High School A.Y
2020-2021.

Figure 1; shows the entire flow of research. This conceptual framework includes the

independent variable and the dependent variable to be used in the study. The independent

variable includes the impact of modular learning, module objectives and learning outcomes.

The dependent variable involves the academic performance of junior high school students of

Aplaya National High School.

Significance of the Study

This study will undertake to find out the impact of modular leaning to the academic
performance of junior high school in Aplaya National High School.
Benefiting the study are the various sectors as following:

The Students

The results will provide the students with some knowledge on what is the impact of
modular learning to them. Any improvement in modular learning to the academic performance
of each student can cover the way of producing better learning and discipline to survive.

The Parents

The research will benefit the parents of the children or students special needs. The data
will help them formulate some prevention measures to help their children from modular. The
finding would also help them learn the actions of their children.

The Teachers

This study will be very beneficial to the teacher, general education teacher, especially to
the teacher who still newbie in the teaching profession. Through this research, teachers
purposefully discover how module.
