4. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS (Continued)

4.6 Petrol and Oil Resistance

4.6.1 Resistance to Oil

Paint film shall show no appreciable softening or reduction in

adhesion after immersion in SAE 10W-30 grade detergent type
engine oil, maintained at 68 - 74°C for 7 hours. Allow half an
hour recovery time before testing.

4.6.2 Resistance to Petrol

(a) Immersion for 2 hours in unleaded grade petrol at 15 -

21°C shall not produce any detrimental effects to the
paint film; or

(b) HN 0184 Test Method 17 Part A

4.7 Temperature Resistance

Where temperature resistance is a mandatory requirement for a part,

Clause 4.7 shall be specified on the parts drawing. The absence of
reference to Clause 4.7 will infer no temperature resistance requirement.

Bake the prepared test panel at 100°C for 24 hours. There shall be no
apparent colour change, loss of adhesion or other effects indicating film
breakdown.

4.8 Acid Resistance

Normally applicable to engine components, such as the battery tray

holder. Where this is a mandatory requirement, the clause in reference
shall be specified on the parts drawing. The absence of this clause shall
infer no testing requirements.

Paint film shall record a minimum rating of 8 when tested to HN0184, test
method 24.
