Set and Scenic Design

David korin's set design is influenced by the need to create circular motions during the

shows, and he relates these motions to the shape of the dome of the capital. To achieve a perfect

display of sweeping movements in the stage, the idea of having a turntable design on the floor of

the stage was the most efficient. It expressed how a lot of the design revolved around the circular

movements. The design gives the audience a vivid picture and ability to trace how the

architecture created; David was very keen on achieving the simplicity of the plan. The model

aligns with the content of the play, which illustrates the art of shipbuilding as David explains the

reason he used the coils of ropes, was to reveal the methodology of shipbuilding. David

communicates to his audience a message through the design, and he suggests the direction of

American politics at the time using the framework and items in the design. The frame of his plan

illustrates how ships were built as the play aims to display. the design communicates to the

audience a message about the structure of the country. The movement of the walls was an

incredible idea to demonstrate the process of building a nation in the play. David korin's design

of Hamilton helps dynamic choreography in the show by using a timber frame that takes

different shapes and an incredible double turntable.

Riccardo Hernandez argues that a set should have a visual influence on the audience.

That is watching, and the lighting should help the actors in expressing the moments in the scenes,

he gives an example of how in one of his project, `Battle of Black and Dogs' the lighting helped

in communicating a cold, inhuman atmosphere of the play. Hernandez proposes that a designer

must develop a model for the intended set before starting on the actual project, he also advises

that it is crucial to approach the stage as an open space to generate ideas aligned to the needs of

the set. Hernandez's approach to creating a set starts with coming up with the idea that forms the

framework of the whole project, and the required materials guide the direction the project takes

while lastly, one must decide on the nature of the design.

Sound and lighting design

Award winners Natasha Katz and Howell Brinkley explain the process of light design

and its adventures in theatre. Lighting is a very important aspect of a theatre, in a set light helps

in giving the audience the awareness of the time in the context of the play either day or night as

well as the shift in time for example from day to night, it also helps in directing and controlling

the focus of the audience by shifting the position and brightness of the light in the set. when

setting up the set the light designers must identify the directors vision of the set before they even

determine what they need for the set, from there the necessary equipment is fetched from the

store and tested in the demo room. The demo room is very important since the designer can

explore and experiment new ideas before implementing them in the actual set, this helps in

assurance and cost management. Advancement in technology has incredibly contributed to the

development of the lighting designing, automated moving lights have reduced the workload and

the time spent in rehearsal or setting up before the actual play.

Robert kaplowitz is a one of the best sound designers and award winner, is A sound

music additionally to the audience prepare the sound content such as writing of songs. According

to kaplowitz the important thing is to determine what is missing or what should be removed in

the music or sounds. The sound designer’s objective is to take the audience focus as they use

their sub-conscious mind during a play, the designers aims at fading away from the audience by
